  • Patent number: 7753652
Abstract: An array of blades for use in a turbomachine is provided comprising a plurality of blades mounted to a rotor disk. A plurality of first blades form a first set of blades and a plurality of second blades form a second set of blades. A blade-to-blade flow field defined between successive ones of the first set of blades is interrupted by the second set of blades to form an asymmetric blade-to-blade flow field around the array of blades. The trailing edges of the second set of blades are positioned forwardly from a line connecting the trailing edges of the first set of blades such that shock forces in the flow field around the array of blades will generally impinge on a stable region of the first set of blades.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 15, 2006
Date of Patent: July 13, 2010
    Assignee: Siemens Energy, Inc.
Inventors: Frank Truckenmueller, Heinrich Stueer, Harry F. Martin, Lewis Gray

  • Patent number: 5156529
Abstract: An integral shroud blade comprising a root portion for mounting the blade in a row on a turbine rotor; a platform portion; an airfoil portion extending upwardly from the platform portion and having a leading edge, a trailing edge, and a tip; a shroud formed on the tip of the airfoil portion and having two opposite tangential side surfaces and a top surface; and at least one pair of holes extending into the shroud, each of the two tangential sides having one hole of each pair being formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4959963
Abstract: A moisture pre-separator for a steam turbine includes an inner cylinder, an outer cylinder and a bottom interconnecting lower ends of the inner and outer cylinders. An annular collection chamber formed by the outer surface of the inner cylinder and the inner surface of the outer cylinder and the bottom is vented to communicate steam from the collection chamber to the interior of the inner cylinder, thereby equalizing pressure around the circumference of the entry gap and increasing effectiveness of moisture entrapment. Vanes are provided either on the outer surface of the inner cylinder or the inner surface of the outer cylinder, or both, in order to enhance swirling flow of moisture within the chamber, thereby helping to keep moisture away from the outer surface of the inner cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4832566
Abstract: An axial flow elastic fluid turbine has a vibration inhibitor for the inlet sleeves which extend through a motive fluid flow area between the inner and outer cylindrical casings of the turbine. The vibration inhibitor comprises a flexible support, preferably in the form of a metal plate, that is secured to, and extends between, adjacent inlet sleeves in the motive fluid flow area between the inner and outer cylindrical casings, and the plates have at least one bend therein in the direction of the radius of the casings to permit flexibility thereof.

  • Patent number: 4541247
Abstract: A high pressure steam turbine having a sealing gland where the turbine rotor penetrates the casing of the turbine. Under certain conditions the gland is sealed by an auxiliary steam supply, and under other conditions the gland is self sealed by turbine inlet steam. A control system is provided to modify the temperature of the auxiliary steam to be more compatible with the self sealing steam, so as to eliminate thermal shock to the turbine rotor.

  • Patent number: 4465429
Abstract: Several means for providing superheated steam varying in pressure and temperature in a plurality of cavities serially disposed between blade discs of a steam turbine in which steam flows from a high pressure to a low pressure portion and improved seals disposed at the radially outer periphery of the cavities which cooperate with the means for providing superheated steam in the cavities to eliminate moisture in the cavities and eliminate stress corrosion in the blade discs.

  • Patent number: 4173869
Abstract: Apparatus and method for automatically determining and indicating that the rotor of a steam turbine has attained a predetermined minimal temperature. Means are utilized for measuring axial dimensional changes of the steam turbine cylinder and rotor due to an increased temperature and summing pertinent axial dimensional changes thereby determining the axial expansion of the rotor which in turn, through known physical properties of the rotor material, corresponds to a temperature increase. This increase of the temperature added to the initial temperature of the rotor provides the total temperature, and upon the total temperature reaching a predetermined value, the steam turbine is available to be brought up to speed and loaded.

  • Patent number: 4019712
Abstract: A free floating disc valve having a positive closure arrangement thereon. A containment vessel enclosing a volume communicable with a pressure chamber is disposed above the valve disc and permits introduction into the pressure chamber of a high pressure fluid entrapped within the containment volume to provide a force to assist the seating of the valve disc.
