  • Patent number: 6283148
Abstract: A valve for use in a sucker rod actuated fluid pump including a traveling valve assembly and a standing valve assembly within which a vortex is believed to be created to draft the ball check valve from its seat during the stroke of the sucker rod and thereby increase the amount of petroleum fluids pumped to the surface during each stroke of the fluid pump.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 23, 2000
Date of Patent: September 4, 2001
    Assignee: Flowmore Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Harry L. Spears, Allen A. Pennington
  • Patent number: 5382142
Abstract: A backwash valve for use in a sucker-rod actuated fluid pump, may be selectively actuated to permit both the standing and traveling ball valves to be unseated at the same time permit the pump to be backwashed and/or the production tubing string drained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 6, 1993
Date of Patent: January 17, 1995
Assignee: Spears Speciality Oil Tools, Inc.
    Inventor: Harry L. Spears
  • Patent number: 5086802
Abstract: A safety check valve for use with a pumping unit for an oil well includes a ball housing in communication with a valve housing, a ball contained in the ball housing moving into the valve housing upon the breakage of a polished rod, whereby the ball seats upon a seating surface and seals off the oil well from the atmosphere.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 22, 1990
Date of Patent: February 11, 1992
    Inventor: Harry L. Spears
  • Patent number: 4848454
Abstract: A downhole tool for use with a ball and seat travelling valve associated with a moveable plunger includes a means for causing relative movement between the upper and lower housings forming the downhole tool, whereby a bumping force may be imparted to the plunger to unseat the ball during the downstroke of the downhole tool.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 1987
Date of Patent: July 18, 1989
    Inventor: Harry L. Spears
  • Patent number: 4599054
Abstract: A travelling valve assembly for use in a sucker rod actuated fluid pump includes a ball valve actuator which engages the ball valve during the downstroke of the sucker rod to force the ball valve into an open fluid transmitting relationship with respect to its valve seat.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 23, 1984
Date of Patent: July 8, 1986
    Inventor: Harry L. Spears
  • Patent number: 4531896
Abstract: A fluid pump for raising petroleum fluids through production tubing in completed oil wells includes a mechanically actuated travelling valve, which is rotated via longitudinal movement within the housing of a travelling valve actuator member.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 1984
Date of Patent: July 30, 1985
    Inventor: Harry L. Spears
  • Patent number: 4504199
Abstract: A fluid pump for raising petroleum fluids through production tubing in completed oil wells includes two mechanically actuated valves, one of which moves longitudinally within the pump housing, and the other valve which rotates within the pump housing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1983
Date of Patent: March 12, 1985
    Inventor: Harry L. Spears
  • Patent number: 4332533
Abstract: A fluid pump with a standing valve above a traveling piston within a housing bore. The traveling piston is mounted on a rod which extends through the housing to a drive mechanism. The traveling piston is constructed so that on the downstroke fluid may pass through a valve in the piston to the bore area above the piston. At the bottom of the downstroke side inlet ports are exposed above the traveling piston to allow more fluid to enter into the bore area above the traveling piston. There is a bottom inlet for fluid to enter during the downstroke of the traveling piston. The upper standing valve raises during the upstroke to unseal outlet ports.
