    Abstract: A secure bed covering having an attached foot pocket according to the present invention is disclosed. A blanket having a front or outer side and a back or inner side may include a foot pocket running the width of the back or inner side. The foot pocket may be located at a distance from one end of the blanket such that when it is placed onto a bed, a user may insert his or her feet into the foot pocket and have the main part of the blanket cover the remaining parts of his or her body. By inserting their feet into the foot pocket, the user will keep their feet covered and warm as well as provide an anchoring force to prevent a partner from uncovering the feet should they move during the night. The foot pocket may be made of or lined by a different material that the main part of the blanket to provide additional comfort to users' feet.

    Abstract: Check valves (500) are incorporated into a fuel injector so as to form a controlling orifice in the system between the solenoid vales which direct fuel to the respective injection and timing chambers of the fuel injector and the chambers themselves. The precision fuel metering capability of the valve (500) is determined by an annular clearance created between the plunger (512) of the valve and the valve body (510) when the valve is in its maximum stroke. For achieving a bi-stable operation of the valve, the ratio of the plunger valve seat (510d) area to the maximum plunger valve (512b) area and the spring (514) are key parameters. The check valves (500) are formed as cartridge type check valves that can be calibrated outside of the injector prior to the installation thereof.

    Abstract: A fuel injector for effectively preventing excessive loading of a component mounted internal to the injector is provided which includes a one-piece retainer having first and second connector portions for permitting two independent loads to be applied to different internal components of the injector. The second connector portion includes threads for engaging a nozzle assembly to impart a compressive force on the nozzle assembly. The first connector portion also includes threads for engaging an outer barrel for placing a first compressive load on a load sensitive internal component, such as a center tube of an injection control valve. In this manner, the second compressive force can be set at a minimum level independent from the first compressive force to permit the size of the center tube to be minimized thereby reducing the overall size of the injector.

    Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injection control valve positioned inside a fuel injector, i.e. a unit injector, for providing fast response and high pressure capability while minimizing the size and complexity of the injector. The control valve includes a valve housing having a supply inlet and fuel outlet, a center tube having a center passage and an annular valve seat, a control valve sleeve slidably mounted on the center tube and an actuator assembly having a coil spring, a stator and an armature. The control valve sleeve moves between an open position permitting fuel to flow between the supply inlet and the fuel outlet and a closed position which sealingly engages the annular valve seat for blocking the flow of fuel between the supply inlet and the fuel outlet. The coil spring biases the control valve sleeve in an open position and is positioned around the center tube. The stator is also axially positioned around the center tube and includes multiple poles.

    Abstract: A stepped rotation fuel distribution valve for receiving and conducting metered, pressurized fuel pulses to the combustion cylinders of a diesel engine is provided. The valve includes a fuel distribution shaft rotatably mounted in a valve housing. The shaft includes a fuel discharge port that is sequentially registrable with fuel distributing passages in the housing that ultimately lead to the diesel fuel injectors associated with the combustion cylinders of the engine. A drive mechanism, which may include a stepper motor, intermittently rotates the fuel distributor shaft so that the shaft discharge port dwells in registration with one of the fuel distributing passages at the time a pressurized pulse of fuel is discharged through the shaft discharge port. The drive mechanism may also include either a set of timing gears or a spring coupling to achieve the desired intermittent rotation.

    Abstract: A pump-line-nozzle fuel injection system in which a supply pump is coupled to a high pressure pump having a plurality of pumping cylinders, each of which has a cam-driven timing plunger and a floating metering plunger. During the retraction stroke, flow to a timing chamber formed between the pistons is blocked by a solenoid valve while the fuel passes into a metering chamber, at the discharge side of the pump, which is closed relative to the high pressure delivery line by a delivery valve. Once the proper quantity of fuel has been metered, the solenoid valve opens allowing fuel to flow into the metering chamber, balancing the pressure on opposite sides of the metering piston, so as to prevent the metering plunger from retracting further as the timing plunger continues to retract. During the compression stroke, at the appropriate time for commencement of injection, the solenoid valve recloses creating a hydraulic link between the metering and timing plungers, so that the fuel is pressurized.

    Abstract: A unit fuel injector adapted for periodic injection of fuel into a combustion chamber of an engine at variable times from cycle to cycle under the control of the engine lubrication fluid is provided, comprising an injector body containing an injector cavity and a discharge orifice communicating with one end of the injector cavity to discharge fuel into the combustion chamber, a lubrication fluid timing circuit and a fuel metering circuit separate from the lubrication fluid timing circuit. A lubrication fluid link positioned in the lubrication fluid timing circuit within the injector cavity has a variable effective length which is varied by the operation of a control valve positioned within the lubrication timing circuit to vary the timing of injection. The control valve is operated to control the flow of lubrication fluid in the lubrication fluid timing circuit to control both the timing of injection and the metering of fuel on a cycle by cycle basis.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine. The injector comprises an injector body forming a plunger bore, and a plunger reciprocably mounted in the bore. The plunger reciprocates between a retracted position and a forward position, and a fuel receiving or metering chamber is formed at the forward end of the bore when the plunger is in the retracted position. A fuel supply passage is formed in the body and conducts fuel to the chamber when the plunger is in the retracted position. When the plunger is moved forwardly in an injection stroke, it ejects the fuel from the chamber through spray holes formed in the body. The injector further includes means for selectively opening or closing the supply passage when the injector plunger is in the retracted position. Such means includes a land formed on the plunger adjacent the supply passage, a groove formed in the land, and means for rotating the plunger between two angular positions.

    Abstract: A diaphragm operated, air fuel control system for controlling the rate of fuel flow to an internal combustion engine in response to intake manifold pressure is disclosed wherein the transient response of the diaphragm operator is attenuated by a fuel filled control chamber. An attenuator assembly connected with the control chamber causes fuel to be supplied to the chamber at a rate which is greater than the rate at which fuel may be discharged from the control chamber. In one embodiment the chamber is formed on the side of the diaphragm operator which is opposite to the side to which intake manifold pressure is supplied. In another embodiment the control chamber is formed to receive one end of a plunger valve connected with the diaphragm operator.

    Abstract: An air fuel ratio control for an I.C. engine fuel supply system is disclosed including a diaphragm operator for a fuel flow modulating valve responsive to engine intake manifold pressure as sensed through an air line connecting the diaphragm operator with the intake manifold and a drain line for returning to the engine fuel tank all fuel which may leak into the diaphragm operator due to seal rupture. The disclosed system further including a specially designed flow restrictor in the air line to prevent engine fuel tank pressurization and reverse fuel flow into the engine's intake manifold should the diaphragm operator rupture. The flow restrictor includes a control orifice which is sufficiently large to allow proper control by the diaphragm operator but yet not so large as to allow fuel tank pressurization should the diaphram rupture. In one embodiment the flow restrictor includes a check valve designed to close only upon improper fuel flow from the air fuel control to the intake manifold.

    Abstract: This disclosure deals with a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine. The injector includes an injector body having a fuel metering chamber formed therein which receives fuel from a fuel supply. A plunger is movable into the chamber in an injection stroke to force fuel from the chamber and out of the injector through spray holes. A valve member is mounted in the path of fuel flow from the chamber to the spray holes, the valve member being movable between first and second positions. In the first position, the valve member seals the path and prevents air in the combustion chamber from mixing with the fuel being metered into the metering chamber, and in the second position the valve member closes the spray holes to terminate injection. During an injection stroke, the plunger moves the valve member from the first position toward the second position, and fuel injection takes place while the valve member is intermediate the first and second positions.

    Abstract: This disclosure deals with a variable fluid pressure regulator wherein the level at which the fluid pressure is regulated is adjustable. A member has a flow passage formed therein, and the fluid flows through the passage and out of the member, and a closure is positioned over the opening. The closure is yieldably mounted relative to the member and a spring urges the closure toward the opening. A recess or cavity is formed in the closure, and the fluid flows from the opening, into the recess, and then through a space between the closure and the member. The fluid pressure in the passage is a function of the spring force and the effective area of fluid pressure on the closure, and the effective area comprises the area of the opening plus any area of the recess which lies outside the margin of the opening. The regulated fluid pressure level may be varied by laterally shifting the closure relative to the opening in order to change the effective area.
