  • Patent number: 6542904
Abstract: A method and system for efficiently providing maintenance activity on a relational database that is utilized within a processing system is disclosed. The relational database includes a pool of threads and a plurality of resources. The pool of threads receive requests from a plurality of clients and control the plurality of resources. The method and system comprise determining that a maintenance activity is required and providing a first command that initiates a first process which terminates all threads in the pool of threads if the maintenance activity is required. The method and system further include providing a second command which initiates a second process after the maintenance activity has completed which causes the threads to be created and initiates the processing of requests.

  • Patent number: 6330582
Abstract: In a transaction processing system that includes a plurality of client processes coupled to a server process, the server process supports execution of transactions generated by the client processes. The server process includes, for each client process being served, one or more transaction message control mechanisms. Each transaction message control mechanism includes a named processing object that includes a name identifying the object. The named processing object also includes an input process that receives all transaction request messages naming the object and identifying the originating client process. The input process dispatches a transaction process for each transaction request message received from the respective client process. Each transaction process oversees transaction execution and receives transaction output. A transaction process provides a transaction output message for the originating client process.

  • Patent number: 5706429
Abstract: A transaction processing system, adapted for use in a computer system having a host computer running applications and user terminals connected to the host computer, determines the transaction attributes for each transaction received by the host computer and dynamically associates a transaction protocol to be used in processing that particular transaction. The transaction protocol specifies such attributes as synchronization paradigm and flow control. The synchronization paradigm and flow control are used only for as long as the transaction remains in the system and are used only for that transaction.
