Patent number: 10276001Abstract: A system includes a band, an attachment mechanism attached to the band, and one or more haptic devices included in the attachment mechanism. The attachment mechanism can attach the band to an electronic device. Additionally or alternatively, the attachment mechanism can attach the band to a wearer. The haptic device or devices are in communication with a processing device. At least one of the one or more haptic devices produces a haptic response based on an activation signal received from the processing device.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2013Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Harry W. Smith, IV, Patrick Kessler, Camille Moussette, John B. Morrell

Patent number: 9914250Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for retaining magnetic properties of magnetic elements while undergoing manufacturing processes are presented. In one embodiment, a manufacturing fixture includes a temperature controlled region suitable for retaining a magnetic element. The manufacturing fixture also includes a cooling mechanism configured to maintain the magnetic element at an acceptable temperature range during a thermally active manufacturing process. The temperature controlled or stabilized region can include a structure configured to receive the magnetic element and a sensor, or sensors. In one embodiment, the sensor can be configured to measure an ambient temperature of the temperature stabilized region. In another embodiment, the sensor can be a magnetic sensor configured to determine a magnetic property of the magnetic element.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2013Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Douglas Joseph Weber, Julio C. Patent number: 9872545Abstract: A durable, accessory cover assembly for a computing device, such as a cellular phone or a tablet computer. The accessory cover includes a frame, a first covering portion, and a second covering portion. The first covering can be composed of a wear-resistant material, such as leather; whereas, the second covering can be composed of a pliable particulate-absorbing material, such as microfiber. The first covering can be configured to seamlessly cover an external bottom surface of the frame, four external lateral surfaces of the frame, and four internal later surfaces of the frame, as well as an overlap region of an internal top surface of the frame. The second covering can be configured cover a majority of the surface area of the internal top surface of the frame, where it abuts the first covering along an annular region.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2016Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jared A. Patent number: 9623646Abstract: The described embodiments relate to a method for embedding one or more electrical components in a flexible substrate. The method includes receiving a substrate of a flexible material, wherein the substrate includes a cosmetic surface and an opposing surface. The method further includes applying a carrier form to the substrate to create a carrier assembly, wherein the carrier form includes one or more positive images representative a design to be transferred to the opposing surface of the substrate. The method further includes removing or cutting a portion of material from the opposing surface of the substrate to form a new opposing surface. Subsequently, the carrier form is removed from the substrate to reveal one or more embedding cavities extending into the substrate at the new opposing surface. In some embodiments, the embedding cavities can thereafter receive one or more electrical components.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2014Date of Patent: April 18, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Harry W. Patent number: 5543178Abstract: A method for accomplishing the above and other objectives has steps of applying a mild solution of acid to surfaces of grout and tile, letting the surfaces dry for approximately 12 hours, applying a grout colorant and sealing material, referred to as grout-treating material, to the grout and such surfaces of tile as the grout-treating material contacts in an application process, allowing grout-treating material on grout and tile surfaces to dry, cleaning the grout and tile surfaces with a non-solvent cleaner and then merely scraping and vacuuming or sweeping the grout-treating material from the surfaces. A small portion of the grout-treating material which might stick to surfaces of some types of tile in the event of errors in applying this method can be scraped off easily or removed with a scrub pad. The preferred acid is 3-to-15 percent oxalic acid in a solution with water. Similar proportions of muriatic acid or sulfanilic acid can be used as substitutes for oxalic acid.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1995Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Inventor: Harry W. Smith

Patent number: 4433645Abstract: A heat exchanger includes elongated inner and outer tubular members defining an elongated generally annular passage therebetween. A burner mounted adjacent one end of the tubular members discharges hot gases into the inner tubular member for axial flow therealong and entry into the annular passage adjacent the ends of the tubular members remote from the burner. The gases then flow back through the annular passage for discharge through a lateral exhaust outlet in the outer tubular member adjacent the one end thereof. The annular passage has a varying cross-sectional shape along its length such that a major portion of the gases enter the annular passage at a location diagonally opposite from the exhaust outlet and then flow both longitudinally and circumferentially along the annular passage toward the exhaust outlet. The heat exchanger is particularly useful in heating diesel engine coolant to facilitate more rapid engine starting.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1981Date of Patent: February 28, 1984Assignee: Hunter Investment CompanyInventor: Harris W. Patent number: 4203415Abstract: A new and improved heat exchanger of the cross over type which facilitates heating an air flow directed either axially or transversely of the heat exchanger itself. The exchanger is comprised of an inner shell which defines a heating chamber for a fuel burner and an outer shell which is coaxially received over the inner shell in a radially spaced apart relationship therewith. The generally annular area between the inner and outer shells defines an air flow passage with the air flow to be heated being primarily conveyed through this air flow passage. A cross over member extends across the air flow passage to provide gaseous flow communication between the heating chamber and a gaseous flow chamber associated with the outer shell. This arrangement facilitates continuously conveying the products of combustion outwardly from the heating chamber. A thin air deflector surrounds the cross over member and is disposed in the air flow passage generally parallel to both the inner and outer shells.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1978Date of Patent: May 20, 1980Inventors: Thomas J.
