    Abstract: An oral delivery system for the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus in humans includes a pharmaceutically effective amount of a biguanide and a water-insoluble polymeric carrier, providing for a controlled release of the biguanide independent of environmental pH. In addition, a layer including a glitazone or sulfonylurea can be included in the oral delivery system, while still providing for a pH-independent, controlled release of biguanide over an extended period of time.
