  • Publication number: 20170230904
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to perform data operations with a packet data network of a carrier associated with a first SIM of the UE. An indication of a requested data operation with the packet data network of the carrier associated with the first SIM of the UE may be received. The UE may be operating in a dual SIM mode in which the packet data network of the carrier associated with the first SIM of the UE is unavailable. It may be determined if one or more conditions for performing the requested data operation are present and if a data path to perform the requested data operation is available. The requested data operation may be performed if the one or more conditions for performing the requested data operation are present and if a data path to perform the requested data operation is available.

  • Patent number: 9584995
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to perform emergency calling. A UE may receive an indication to initiate an emergency call. The UE may select a cell on which to initiate the emergency call. If a serving cell of a first SIM of the UE is not available for the emergency call, the UE may utilize information from a second SIM of the UE as part of selecting the cell on which to initiate the emergency call. The information from the second SIM may include an indication of a serving cell of the second SIM. Alternatively or in addition, the information from the second SIM may include an indication of one or more neighboring cells of the second SIM. The emergency call may be initiated via the selected cell using the first SIM.

  • Patent number: 9525995
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for user equipment (UE) devices to perform a radio access technology (RAT) upgrade. A UE may initiate a background scan to upgrade RAT while camped on a first system in response to an occurrence of a first condition. The first system may include a first PLMN that operates according a first RAT. The UE may determine a second system operates according to a second RAT that provides upgraded service as compared to the first RAT. The second system may be included in one or more systems found during the background scan. The UE may attempt to register on the second system based on the second PLMN operating according to the second RAT. The first and second PLMNs may each have an associated operator preference and the first PLMN may be preferred over the second PLMN.

  • Publication number: 20160345244
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to perform system selection. A UE may determine to perform system selection for a first SIM of the UE. Information, such as serving cell and/or neighboring cell information, may be obtained from a second SIM of the UE. System selection for the first SIM may be performed based at least in part on the information obtained from the second SIM.

  • Publication number: 20160345245
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to search for service. A UE may determine that a first SIM of the UE is out-of-service. The UE may scan for service for the first SIM of the UE using a second SIM of the UE. An indication may be provided to the first SIM if service (or service information) is found for the first SIM. If the second SIM is also out-of-service, the UE may scan for service for the first SIM and the second SIM jointly.

  • Publication number: 20160262177
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method optimize a manner in which carrier aggregation (CA) is used. The apparatus comprises a transceiver and processor. The transceiver is used to establish a connection with a network including first and second network components used for a CA functionality. The processor implicitly deactivates the SCell while the CA functionality is enabled by the network by determining that the CA functionality is enabled by the network, determining that the SCell is one of out-of-service (OoS) and effectively OoS when the second network component is reachable by the apparatus and a connection parameter with the second network component is below a predetermined threshold, transmitting a channel quality indicator (CQI) value of zero for the SCell to the first network component to implicitly deactivate the SCell, and utilizing a low power consumption state where monitoring of the SCell is terminated.
