Abstract: This invention relates to a portable illumination device (1) for the production of light effects, with a carrier (3) and a light-emitting device (2) operated with an open flame and connectable to this carrier. Carrier (3) comprises a handle (4) essentially designed as a hollow cylinder, which carries a shield-type flame protector (5) at one end. The light-emitting device is a gas lighter (2) arranged inside handle (4).

Abstract: A process for the preparation of water-soluble, amino-containing condensates and adducts having a greater drainage and retention effect in papermaking, in which from 5 to 95% by weight of the condensates or adducts are separated off as permeate from solutions of water-soluble, amino-containing condensates or adducts by ultrafiltration through membranes and the amino-containing condensates or adducts having improved efficiency are, if required, isolated from the retentate, and the high molecular weight polymer fractions contained in the retentate are used as retention aids, drainage aids and fixing compositions in papermaking, as promoters in the sizing of paper with alkyldiketenes, as flocculants for sewage sludges, as adhesion promoters in the production of laminated films, as additives for hair and skincare compositions and as compositions for immobilizing anionic active ingredients.

Abstract: Phenyloxadiazolylanilines are prepared by reaction of a benzonitrile in an aqueous reaction medium first with hydroxylamine or an acid addition salt thereof to give a benzamideoxime and then with an isatoic anhydride to give a non-cyclic compound and subsequent cyclization, the reaction sequence being carried out in the presence of an anionic surfactant.

Abstract: Pyrazolo[5,1-b]quinazolones are prepared by reacting isatoic anhydrides with pyrazolones at from 100.degree. to 180.degree. C. in an inert organic solvent with simultaneous azeotropic removal of the water formed in the course of the reaction.

Abstract: Pyrazolo[5,1-b]quinazolones are prepared by reacting isatoic anhydrides with 3-methylpyrazol-5-one in water as reaction medium at from 40.degree. to 150.degree. C. under from 1 to 5 bar.

Abstract: Haloisatoic anhydrides are prepared by halogenating appropriately unsubstituted isatoic anhydrides with elemental chlorine or bromine in the presence of chlorosulfonic acid at from -10.degree. C. to +100.degree. C. using not less than 0.5 mole of halogen per mole of isatoic anhydride.

Abstract: Azo compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein D is a radical of the formula: ##STR2## where Y.sup.1 is acylamino, hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, nitro, cyano, carboxylic acid or ester, trifluoromethyl, alkoxy, methylsulfonyl, and substituted or substituted carbamyl or sulfamyl, phenylcarbonyl, naphthylcarbonyl, pyridylcarbonyl, oxodiazolyl, quinazolonyl phthalazinonyl, phenylazo, naphthylazo, or pyridylazo,Y.sup.2 is hydrogen, chlorine or bromine,Y.sup.4 is hydrogen or chlorine,and wherein D is free from complex forming hydroxy or carboxy; R is hydrogen, phenyl, naphthyl or pyridyl and X is alkyl or a carboxylic acid alkyl ester, or is phenyl, naphthyl or pyridyl, or acylamino, can be used as pigments for coloring surface coatings, printing inks or plastics.

Abstract: Azo compounds of the general formula ##STR1## where D is the radical of a diazo component of the aminoanthraquinone or aminophthalimide series, or the radical of a tetraazo component H.sub.2 N--D--NH.sub.2 having the formula: ##STR2## where Z is a direct bond, SO.sub.2, NH, CO, SO.sub.2 NH, CONH, NHCONH or NHCOCONH and the rings B are unsubstituted or substituted by Cl, Br, CH.sub.3, NO.sub.2 or OCH.sub.3 ; wherein said radical D is free from complex-forming hydroxyl and carboxyl groups and from ionic groups, n is 1 or 2, R is hydrogen or an aromatic radical, X is hydroxyl, alkyl, a carboxylic acid ester group, unsubstituted or substituted aryl or acylamino, and the ring A may be substituted but is free from SO.sub.3 H groups, are exceptionally suitable for use as pigments, for example for coloring surface coatings, printing inks or plastics.
