    Abstract: A device and a method for processing feed material that has a housing, a material supply channel and a material discharge. The housing is axially divided into a first processing zone in which a rotor rotating around an axis is situated, and a second processing zone which adjoins the first processing zone in the flow direction of the feed material. In order to perform different processing procedures in one device the feed material is subject to a process gas by arranging a hollow body in the housing, coaxially to the axis for the formation of the second processing zone, which outer circumference is radially situated opposite the inner circumference of the housing, and which features at least one port at the end that is facing the rotor. A process gas, which can be fed to the feed material through at least one port, is applied to the hollow body.

A coaxially arranged processing path surrounds the impact plates while maintaining a working gap. Via a material inlet, the device is fed in the axial direction with feed material centrally ending in the processing space, which upon deflection in the region of the rotor disk is fed in the radial direction to the working gap. To ensure complete and gentle processing of the feed material while maintaining its original taste, smell and color, the processing path is part of a basket rotating about the rotational axis.

Process steps are provided to achieve an economic material processing without the use of cryogenic comminution. First, a precomminution of the feedstock to a size smaller than 4 mm is performed in a rotating comminuting device through which a first process gas PG1 flows. Then, a fine grinding is performed of the precomminuted feedstock to a size smaller than 500 ?m, preferably smaller than 425 ?m, in a rotating fine grinding device through which a second process gas PG2 flows. Whereby the temperature of the precomminuted feedstock in the outlet of the fine grinding is regulated in a second control circuit by adding water to the precomminuted feedstock before and/or during and/or after the fine grinding.

    Abstract: A device for comminuting feedstock with a rotor which is disposed within a housing and rotates about an axis of rotation and is equipped over its circumference with comminuting tools. A ring disc is attached to front sides of the rotor in each case concentrically to the axis of rotation. The removal of the sufficiently comminuted material occurs via a screen deck extending over part of the rotor circumference. On axial front sides of the screen deck an arcuate sealing element following the outer circumference of the ring disc is disposed in each case, the element which to form a sealing gap in the plane of the ring disc lies radially opposite to the disc. The sealing effect of the sealing gap between the screen deck and rotor uniformly over the entire length is successfully achieved in this way.
