  • Patent number: 6008786
Abstract: To correct the dependency of the transmissivity/applied voltage characteristics on color, a computing circuit is provided for generating corrected gray scale data by performing an addition or subtraction of the gray scale level related to at least one color. A delay circuit delays the gray scale data for uncorrected colors to maintain synchronization between the gray scale signals of all colors.

  • Patent number: 5682176
Abstract: In order to drive a liquid crystal panel without causing flickering or noise on a screen, an analog signal (R) is input to sample and hold circuits SH through an amplifier 14. When the first half of the clock signals is input, the voltage values of the analog signal which are held in the corresponding circuits SH1 . . . SH(n/2) are added up in an adder 16, divided by n/2 in a divider 18, and output to a circuit SH(n/2+1). When the second half of the clock signals is input, the voltage values which are held in the corresponding circuits SH(n/2+2) . . . SH(n+1) are added up in an adder 16', divided (by n/2) in a divider 18', and output to a circuit SH(n+2). The outputs from the circuits SH(n/2+1) and SH(n+2) are summed in an adder 24 and divided by 2 in a divider 26. A driver circuit applies a voltage to the corresponding electrode of a liquid crystal panel according to the output from the divider 26.

  • Patent number: 5121235
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device which allows a multi-gradation display to be attained by selectively applying or removing a fixed voltage to the liquid crystal, eliminating the necessity of substantially increasing the display unit area or finely adjusting the value of the voltage applied to the liquid crystal of each pixel to obtain multiple gradiations in display level. In a liquid crystal display device in which the application of a voltage to a liquid crystal for each pixel is controlled, in accordance with the present invention, one display unit comprises n (n is a positive integer) adjacent pixels. A light transmission factor control layer for controlling the light transmission factor of the pixel is provided for each pixel. The ratio between light transmission factors of light transmission factor control layers of n pixels in a display unit is set as follows: 2.sup.0 :2.sup.1 :2.sup.2 . . . 2.sup.n-1 where the number of gradiations is 2.sup.n.

  • Patent number: 4946259
Abstract: A color liquid crystal display comprises a liquid crystal interposed between two transparent electrodes. The electrode on at least one side of the liquid crystal comprises a plurality of pixel electrodes, each pixel electrode defining the area of one pixel of the display. Two or more pixels together form a picture element of the color display. One pixel (a chromatic pixel) of each picture element has a color filter covering the pixel. The other pixel (an achromatic pixel) of each picture element has a translucent (noncolored) filter covering the pixel. The translucent filter also covers a peripheral region of each color pixel. The peripheral region of each chromatic pixel (which is covered by both the color filter and the translucent filter) forms a light shield to increase the contrast of the display. A transparent (noncolored) filter is provided over each achromatic pixel to adjust the overall thickness of the liquid crystal, so as to minimize light leakage at the achromatic pixels.

  • Patent number: 4235001
Abstract: A gas panel fabrication method includes forming a first set of dielectrically coated parallel conductors on a glass plate, forming a metal spacer layer over the first conductors, oxidizing those areas of the metal spacer layer which are between the first conductors, forming a second set of dielectrically coated parallel conductors over the spacer layer in orthogonal relationship with the first conductors, etching the unoxidized areas of the spacer layer from between the second conductors, and forming a cover plate to hold an ionizable gas adjacent to the orthogonal conductors.
