  • Publication number: 20020018633
Abstract: An optical waveguide, comprising a cladding around a core, wherein this optical waveguide is configured such that an adhesive layer is interposed between the core and the cladding; as well as a method for manufacturing an optical waveguide comprising a core and a cladding, wherein this method for manufacturing an optical waveguide comprises forming a core film and a first cladding layer with a core groove, embedding the core film into the groove of the first cladding layer, forming an adhesive film, providing a second cladding layer for forming an integrally bonded structure containing the first cladding layer, and bonding the first and second cladding layers together through the agency of the adhesive film. This invention provides an optical waveguide whose transmission loss does not depend on wavelength in the optical communications waveband of 0.6-1.

  • Patent number: 4825221
Abstract: Means are provided for radiating electromagnetic waves from a receiving end zone of a dielectric line for transmitting electromagnetic waves without the need for a metal horn antenna or a metal waveguide, and matching problems are thereby substantially avoided. Said means are provided by shaping the end of the line to specified contours, by varying the dielectric constant of the material of the line in a gradient longitudinally near the end zone of the line, and by arranging a reflecting mirror or lens to receive the waves emitted from the line. This waveguide is useful in wireless communications, radar transmission and similar applications.

  • Patent number: 4710353
Abstract: A detector for detecting leaks of a corrosive liquid such as strong acids or bases is provided comprising a light guide core having a covering which generates heat upon contact with the liquid to the detected, thereby changing the light transmissivity of the light guide, which change can be measured. The covering comprises a porous polymer having a salt within its pores such as an ammonium salt which dissolves in the liquid to be detected and generates heat thereby.

  • Patent number: 4701362
Abstract: A dielectric sheet material useful in electronics applications is provided. The material preferably is porous, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) having a plurality of through-holes. The walls of the through-holes are solid, sintered PTFE which impart a high degree of compressive strength to the otherwise highly compressible porous PTFE. The through-holes having solid walls may be formed in the material by a laser or by other means.

  • Patent number: 4677371
Abstract: A coaxial cable and a bare wire are aligned in parallel relationship and affixed within insulation covers which have openings therein so as to partly expose both the bare wire and the outer conductor of the coaxial cable at the atmosphere, forming a leak detecting sensor. By the use of resistance meters, the core wire of the coaxial cable is utilized to detect both the presence and the location of a leak.

  • Patent number: 4640123
Abstract: In a device for detecting oil leaks and the like on a surface of water such as a moat around an oil storage tank, a vibrator is placed which substantially eliminates extraneous matter attaching to or depositing on the sensor and thereby enhances the conditions for leak detection.

  • Patent number: 4610552
Abstract: A temperature sensor is provided comprising a conductor having a low-melting-point, a fibrous insulating layer adjacent the low-melting-point conductor and separating it from a second conductor. An oscillator applying a pulse signal to the sensor and a receiver receiving the pulse signal through the sensor can detect changes in the signal wave form due to melting or distortion of the low-melting-point conductor. The specific temperature to be sensed can be preset by providing preheating of the sensor, as by Joule heating, by passing a current through the low-melting-point conductor.
