Patent number: 11130556Abstract: An exhaust system for a watercraft with an engine includes an upstream exhaust pipe including an end portion with an outlet, a water lock including an inner space accommodating the end portion, a downstream exhaust pipe connected to the water lock, and a flow direction diverter, such as a baffle. The upstream exhaust pipe guides exhaust gas from the engine to the end portion. The inner space of the water lock receives the exhaust gas from the outlet of the end portion. The downstream exhaust pipe exhausts the exhaust gas from the inner space to an outside of the watercraft body. The flow direction diverter changes a flow direction of the exhaust gas at the outlet to a cross direction which intersects a pipe axis of the end portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2020Date of Patent: September 28, 2021Assignee: YAMAHA HATSUDOKI KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventor: Haruo Okamoto

Patent number: 7217168Abstract: An engine exhaust system has an exhaust gas passage and a coolant passage. The coolant passage surrounds at least a portion of the exhaust passage. The system is also equipped with an exhaust conduit, which mixes exhaust gases and coolant and then releases the mixture outside of a watercraft. A perforated plate has an array of holes. A central portion of the perforated plate is curved and projects downstream within the exhaust conduit. This curved central portion enables the exhaust gas and the coolant to mix after passing through the perforated plate. A guide tube is positioned downstream of the perforated plate, so that the exhaust gases pass through the guide tube after passing through the holes of the perforated plate. The coolant passes through outer holes of the perforated plate and then passes around the circumference of the guide tube and is ultimately mixed with the exhaust gases.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2005Date of Patent: May 15, 2007Assignee: Yamaha Marine Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Haruo Okamoto

Patent number: 4442857Abstract: A flow-control valve exhibits a flow-drooping characteristic such that the liquid supply into an oil pressure mechanism is decreased in response to an increase of the amount of liquid discharge from a pump. The pump outlet passage forms branches into a fluid supply passage communicating with an oil pressure mechanism and a recirculating passage back to an oil tank. A control valve located in the recirculating passage is opened in response to the fluid increase from the pump to recirculate a part of the fluid into the tank. An orifice not receiving large influences of the pressure variation is disposed either at the pump outlet passage or the recirculating passage and a variable orifice valve is disposed in the fluid supply passage. The variable orifice is controlled by the pressure differential existing between the upstream and downstream portions of the orifice at either location.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1982Date of Patent: April 17, 1984Assignee: Jidosha Kiki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Ohe, Haruo Okamoto

Patent number: 4432781Abstract: The invention provides a novel method for manufacturing fused quartz glass by the decomposition and oxidation of a vaporizable silicon compound such as silicon tetrachloride in a plasma flame according to which the quartz glass rod produced contains a controlled amount of hydroxy groups with high reproducibility. The principle of the inventive method consists in the admixture of gaseous hydrogen chloride into the gaseous reactant mixture or in the plasma-supporting gas as the source for the hydrogen atoms to be converted to the hydroxy groups in place of hydrogen gas or water vapor as the hydrogen source. Good proportionality is established between the concentration of the hydrogen chloride in the gaseous feed and the hydroxy content in the resultant fused quartz glass rod.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1982Date of Patent: February 21, 1984Assignee: Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Haruo Okamoto, Motoyuki Yamada

Patent number: 4358306Abstract: The invention provides a method for molding a block of a fused quartz glass by the plastic deformation of a starting block with smaller dimensions at a high temperature. The molding procedure is carried out in a graphite mold under compression at a temperature of 1700.degree. C. or higher in an atmosphere of helium at a pressure in the range, preferably, from 50 to 500 Torr. The cooling schedule as specified is also of importance in order that the molded quartz glass block is freed from any strain or cracks.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1981Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Haruo Okamoto, Motoyuki Yamada
