  • Patent number: 4886035
Abstract: An air-fuel ratio control method which controls the amount of the intake side secondary air in accordance with either the engine temperature or both of the engine temperature and the intake air temperature upon the engine re-start under a high engine temperature, thereby avoiding enrichment of the intake air-fuel ratio even at the occurrence of the percolation phenomenon and to improve the engine-start property. Furthermore, the amount of the intake side secondary air is controlled until the start of the air-fuel ratio feedback control to accomplish improvement in the purification of the exhaust gases and in the stability of the engine speed at an idle state.

  • Patent number: 4736720
Abstract: An idling speed control system for controlling idling rotational speed of an internal combustion engine. A vacuum-operated actuator having a diaphragm defining a vacuum chamber controls opening and closing of a throttle valve in response to first and second control pressures supplied from a change-over control valve to the vacuum chamber. An electronic control unit generates, in response to an on-off control pulse signal having a period corresponding to rotational speed of the engine, one of on-period and off-period of the on-off control pulse signal having a predetermined constant value, and supplies the change-over control valve with the control pulse signal. Preferably, a detector is connected to the electronic control unit for detecting a change in the magnitude of a load on the engine and supplying the electronic control unit with an output signal indicative of the detected change in the load magnitude.

  • Patent number: 4727850
Abstract: A secondary air control device for an internal combustion engine wherein the secondary air is introduced into the engine intake downstream of the carburetor in response to sudden increases in vacuum, such as upon rapid deceleration of the vehicle and in turn the engine. The device includes detectors and a circuit for controlling the operation of the secondary air control valve which prevent opening of the valve if both the engine temperature is too low and the vehicle transmission is in neutral.

  • Patent number: 4683860
Abstract: A device for increasing an amount of fuel to be supplied to an engine includes a fuel increasing mechanism for supplying an added amount of fuel to the engine, and an electric control circuit including a low-temperature sensor for detecting a low temperature of the engine to produce a first signal capable of actuating the fuel increasing mechanism, and a neutral-gear-condition detector for detecting the neutral-gear-condition of a gear transmission associated with the engine to produce a second signal. The fuel increasing mechanism is inactivated in response to the second signal from the neutral-gear-condition sensor by overriding the low-temperature sensor to prevent the increase of fuel while the gear transmission is in neutral. A second embodiment employs additional sensors for air temperature, engine r.p.m., vehicle speed and the park-condition of an automatic transmission also for controlling the fuel increase.

  • Patent number: 4594977
Abstract: A secondary air intake system for adding air to the intake of an internal combustion engine includes an air control valve for changing the open area of a secondary air intake passage. The air control valve is opened and closed from a first and second pressure supply means. A first pressure supply means gradually supplies the first and second control pressure to operate the air control valve and open and close the secondary air intake passage in response to an air-fuel ratio signal. The first pressure supply means also supplies the second control pressure independent of the air-fuel ratio signal during a predetermined engine operating state. A second pressure supply means supplies the second control pressure separately of the first pressure supply means during a predetermined engine operating state.

  • Patent number: 4479472
Abstract: Apparatus for preventing undesirable reduction in the speed of an engine after starting and including an actuator operable upon engine starting to correct throttle opening to a determined extent in increasing direction, a vacuum power system for the actuator and a switching control circuit for detecting engine starting and predetermined running states of the vehicle and engine to keep the actuator energized as long as the engine speed and the vehicle speed are both below respective preset level. Even after the preset level of vehicle speed has been exceeded, the actuator is also energized in the presence of battery load, such as air conditioning or headlights when the engine speed remains below its preset level. The actuator is de-energized when the vehicle speed exceeds its preset level in the absence of battery load as well as when the preset level of engine speed is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 4442811
Abstract: Apparatus and method for expediting the starting of an internal combustion engine in which a vacuum-operated throttle actuator is controlled by a vacuum passage connected therewith and extending from an intake vacuum outlet located adjacent to the throttle valve. According to the invention, a second vacuum passage to the actuator communicates with the intake duct downstream of the throttle valve and a solenoid type switching valve is arranged between the two vacuum passages so that, when a warmed engine is restarted, the actuator is fed with vacuum through the second passage to actuate the throttle valve to a more open position than its normal idling position to yield a mixture of optimal air fuel ratio.
