  • Patent number: 4821975
Abstract: A backlash prevention adjustment mechanism for a backlash prevention device includes a first magnet, a second magnet, and a nonmagnetic electroconductive member provided therebetween, being rotatable with a spool shaft, and having an eddy current induced therein by the first and second magnet to provide a braking force for the spool to prevent backlash. A motor is provided to move the first magnet relative to the second magnet to change the level of the eddy current. A lever is also provided to manually move the first magnet with respect to the second magnet. In another aspect, a shielding yoke is provided on the first magnet and is movable therewith to position a slit in the yoke proximate a first magnetism sensor or a second magnetism sensor to detect positions thereof corresponding to maximum and minimum levels of the eddy current.

  • Patent number: 4779814
Abstract: A backlash prevention device for a fishing reel where the spool is connected to a nonmagnetic electroconductive member associated with brake magnets that generate eddy currents in the nonmagnetic electroconductive member to provide a braking force on the spool. The backlash prevention device includes moveable magnets for varying the braking force. Magnets on the yoke carrying the moveable magnets are detected to determine when the brake magnets are aligned in either the maximum or minimum braking position.

  • Patent number: 4722492
Abstract: A device for preventing fishing line backlash in a double-bearing type fishing reel wherein a spool is loaded by magnetic induction to prevent the backlash. The device is so constructed that magnet rings are located inside and outside of an electric conductive ring fixed to a spool shaft. One of the magnetic rings is rotated by an adjusting disc having a guide slot to engage a lug on the rotated ring to adjust the magnetic induction brake force for the spool.

  • Patent number: 4710689
Abstract: A fishing reel that includes an eddy current brake mechanism that applies a braking force to the spool of the reel when the speed or acceleration of the spool, as detected electrically, reaches a predetermined value. The reel further includes electrical means for detecting, calculating and comparing rotation of the spool to a predetermined value whereupon a magnetic brake slows the spool to prevent backlash.

  • Patent number: 4708303
Abstract: A drag control mechanism for use in a fishing reel of the type wherein a drag mechanism is mounted on a handle shaft to apply a drag force against a master gear comprises a drag control member mounted on the handle shaft, a drag pawl which engages or disengages from the drag control member, a reverse rotation preventing pawl which engages the ratchet wheel and a drag switch swingable between its ON and OFF states. When the drag switch is in its ON state, the drag pawl engages the drag control member to prevent the rotation thereof and the reverse rotation pawl disengages from the ratchet wheel to permit the reverse rotation of the shaft, so that the drag force of the drag mechanism is controlled by the movement of the drag control member relative to the shaft upon the rotation of the handle.

  • Patent number: 4620371
Abstract: A water-depth measuring apparatus for a double bearing type fishing reel including a reel body in which a spool carrying a fishing line is rotatably supported. At least one element is provided on the spool for rotation therewith. A case which is separate from the reel body is removably mountable on the reel body, and contains a detector for detecting the rotating speed of the element and generating a corresponding signal, a computer for receiving the signal from the detector and calculating the cast length of the fishing line, a display device for displaying the cast length, a keyboard, a battery and a buzzer. The keyboard carries a power supply ON key, a power supply OFF key, a fishing line size set key, a memory set key and a buzzer OFF key. The detector faces the element and the buzzer sounds when the cast length of the fishing line has reached a certain level.

  • Patent number: 4588141
Abstract: A handle assembly for a spinning reel for fishing includes a handle shaft connected to a reel body and having an end projection, and a handle arm connected to the handle shaft. The handle arm is provided with a channel-shaped groove in which the projection of the handle shaft is received. The arm is pivotally connected to the shaft projection, and rotatable between a first position in which it is coaxial with the shaft and a second position in which it is perpendicular to the shaft. The arm is also provided with a recess contiguous to the groove. A slider is slidable in the recess. A spring is disposed in the recess for urging the slider into locking engagement with one side of the shaft projection when the arm is in its first position.

  • Patent number: 4540135
Abstract: A click brake for a fly reel includes an adjustment mechanism whereby line may be released either soundlessly or with an accompanying clicking noise. In the soundless condition no braking force is applied, but in the clicking condition, the braking force may be steplessly increased by increasing the pressure on a pawl engaged with the click gear. The pressure on the pawl is applied via a spring which is adjustably tensioned by a cam and control lever arrangement.
