  • Patent number: 5469818
Abstract: The variable valve timing control device according to the present invention controls the valve timing of the intake valves of the engine based on the optimum valve timing at the full load operation of the engine. Namely, the variable valve timing control device of the present invention determines the valve timing in accordance with the combination of the present engine load and the present engine speed in such a manner that the deviation of the valve timing from the optimum valve timing when the engine is operated in full load at the present speed does not exceed a predetermined maximum allowable value. Since the valve timing of the engine is always set within a range determined by the maximum allowable deviation from the optimum valve timing for the full load operation, when the engine is accelerated to the full load condition the amount of the change, i.e., the amount of the operation of the variable valve timing control device is kept always within the range determined by the maximum allowable deviation.

  • Patent number: 5209194
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a valve timing in an internal combustion engine. A timing piston 7 is in splined engagement with both a camshaft sleeve connected to the camshaft 1 and a pulley sleeve connected to the timing pulley. The timing piston 7 is connected, via a ball bearing unit 8, to a screw nut 9 of a ball screw mechanism. The bearing unit 8 is connected to the nut 9, with a clearance C. A disk spring 20, via a spacer 21, urges the inner race 8a of the bearing 8 so that it abuts against a washer 23 an a snap ring 22 on the screw shaft 9. As a result, the screw shaft 9 is connected to the timing piston 7 so that the axial movement from the shaft 9 is transmitted to the piston 7, while the piston 7 is rotating on the shaft 9, and a slight radial relative movement is allowed between the screw shaft 9 and the piston 7 without generating any play in the axial movement. An oil passageway is formed for lubricating the ball nut mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4513945
Abstract: An electromagnetic reed valve comprises a pressing member which is mounted at a plunger. The pressing member is urged by a spring toward a reed valve body, so that the pressing member urges at least that portion of the reed valve body which confronts the outlet of a valve chamber, when the outlet is closed by the reed valve body.

  • Patent number: 4434775
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling pressurized air supply to an engine has an intake passage connected to the engine at the downstream end thereof. A throttle valve is disposed at a downstream side of the intake passage. A supercharger control valve is disposed at an upstream side of the throttle valve in the intake passage. A supercharger passage containing a supercharger is connected to the intake passage at both upstream and downstream sides of the supercharger control valve. An actuator has an actuating body for dividing the actuator into a first and second pressure chambers. The actuating body is operatively connected to the supercharger control valve to close and open it according to the movement of the actuating body. A compression coil spring is provided in the first pressure chamber for normally pressing the actuating body to open the supercharger control valve.

  • Patent number: 4432324
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprising a carburetor which has a main air bleed passage and a slow air bleed passage. An air-fuel ratio of the mixture fed into the cylinder of an engine is so controlled that it becomes equal to the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio by a single electromagnetic control valve arranged in the main air bleed passage and the slow air bleed passage. The control valve comprises a first reed valve arranged in the slow air bleed passage, a second reed valve arranged in the main air bleed passage, and an electromagnetic device simultaneously actuating the first reed valve and the second reed valve while maintaining the opening area of the first reed valve at an area which is larger than the opening area of the second reed valve.

  • Patent number: 4383512
Abstract: An air-fuel ratio control device of an internal combustion engine having a carburetor. An air bleed passage is connected to a fuel outflow passage of the carburetor, and an electromagnetic control valve is arranged in the air bleed passage. The control valve is controlled by the detecting signal of an oxygen concentration detector arranged in the exhaust passage so that the air-fuel ratio of a mixture fed into the cylinder of an engine becomes equal to the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. When the vehicle is decelerated, the mean value of the potential level, which has been applied to the electromagnetic control valve before deceleration, is stored. When the throttle valve is opened during the deceleration and, then, the oxygen concentration detector detects that a rich air-fuel mixture is fed into the cylinder of the engine, the above-mentioned mean value is instantaneously applied to the electromagnetic control valve.

  • Patent number: 4345573
Abstract: A blow-by gas treating and controlling system in which blow-by gas accumulated in the crank chamber of an internal combustion engine is induced by means of the vacuum generated at a portion of the throttle barrel of the carburetor above the throttle valve, the level of vacuum established in that region being proportional to the flow rate of the intake mixture. The blow-by gas is then mixed with the fresh air-fuel mixture and burnt together with the latter. Generation of an excessively high vacuum in the crankcase, which may take place when the rate of generation of the blow-by gas is small, is avoided because of the presence of a bleed pipe which is connected between the blow-by gas treating pipe and the air cleaner of the engine and adapted to supply suplementary air to the blow-by gas through orifice. Also, an excessively high pressure generated in the crank chamber is relieved through this bleed pipe which acts in this case as a safety by-pass passage.
