  • Patent number: 7359300
Abstract: A recording condition determining method is disclosed for realizing high quality recording at high speed while preventing the degradation of a light source. Specifically, a determination is made as to whether an optimal recording power obtained through OPC or running OPC exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and if it is determined that the optimal recording power exceeds the threshold value, a choice is selected out of multiple choices including the choice of not changing the optimal recording power based on a predetermined selection criterion. Then, a recording condition is established based on the selected choice. By setting the selection criterion so that the choice of not changing the optimal recording power is selected when damage to the light source is expected to be minimal, recording may be performed without lowering the recording speed even when the optimal recording power exceeds the threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20070223330
Abstract: An optical disk device records data on a recordable or rewritable optical disk. The optical disk device comprises zone storing means for preliminarily storing locations of a plurality of zones set by dividing a recordable or rewritable area of the optical disk from an inner periphery thereof to an outer periphery thereof, position detecting means for detecting a position on the optical disk so as to record data at the position, judging means for judging which of the zones the position corresponds to by referring to the zone storing means, and controlling means for controlling the device to perform a data-recording by a CLV method to each of the zones specified by the judging means by setting a recording velocity and a recording power for each of the zones so as to enable the data-recording to provide an equal recording density to all of the zones.

  • Publication number: 20070171792
Abstract: An information recording device includes a buffer memory, a buffer management unit and a phase adjusting unit. The buffer memory temporarily stores data to be written in a recording medium. The buffer management unit starts writing the data in the recording medium if a size of the data stored in the buffer memory exceeds a first predetermined size, and suspends writing the data in the recording medium if the size of the data stored in the buffer memory becomes less than a second predetermined size. Additionally, the phase adjusting unit starts adjusting a phase error between a signal synchronous to the data and a signal synchronous to a location on the recording medium when the buffer management unit starts writing the data in the recording medium, and finishes adjusting the phase error so that the phase error becomes substantially zero before the buffer management unit suspends writing the data in the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 7193943
Abstract: An optical disk apparatus is disclosed. A light emitting element emits a laser beam directed to a recordable optical disk. A driver rotates the optical disk. A first optimum recording power obtaining part performs test recording on the optical disk while the optical disk is rotated by the driver and output power of the light emitting element is varied so as to obtain an optimum recording power based on a reproduction signal in a test recorded area. A temperature measuring part measures the temperature in the vicinity of the light emitting element. A memory stores the optimum recording power obtained by the first optimum recording power obtaining part and the measured temperature when the optimum recording power is obtained. A temperature-dependent recording power obtaining part refers to the optimum recording power and the associated temperature stored in the memory so as to obtain an optimum recording power according to the temperature measured by the temperature measuring part in real recording.

  • Patent number: 7085211
Abstract: In an optical recording/reproducing method and apparatus of the present invention, a modulation parameter is calculated for each of reproduced data signals, each modulation parameter corresponding to one of respective recording powers. An optimum recording power is determined based on a relationship between the modulation parameters and the recording powers, wherein a sequence of pairs of the modulation parameter and the recording power is selected, a gamma, which defines a ratio of a change of the modulation parameter to a change of the recording power, is calculated for each of the selected pairs, and a target recording power corresponding to the optimum recording power is found based on a function derived from a relationship between the calculated gammas and the respective recording powers, the target recording power causing a value of the function to be equal to zero.
