  • Publication number: 20080049272
Abstract: A recording apparatus for forming images using a recording head includes a feeding roller, a conveying roller, a conveyance control unit, and a recording control unit. The conveyance control unit performs a conveying operation a number of times after the trailing end of a sheet reaches a predetermined position defined between the feeding roller and the conveying roller such that the trailing end of the sheet is disposed in a predetermined range upstream of the conveying roller in a sheet conveying direction after the conveying operations. At least one of the conveying operations performed a number of times is performed based on a distance from the position of the trailing end of the sheet to the position of the conveying roller.

  • Publication number: 20080050164
Abstract: This invention relates to a printing apparatus and a conveyance control method capable of simultaneously operating plural encoder sensors and executing more accurate printing medium conveyance control. A first encoder sensor provided adjacent to a first conveyance roller detects the conveyance amount of a printing medium by the first conveyance roller provided in the conveyance path of the printing medium. A second encoder sensor provided adjacent to a second conveyance roller detects the conveyance amount of the printing medium by the second conveyance roller provided in the conveyance path of the printing medium at the downstream side from the first conveyance roller in the conveyance direction of the printing medium. For example, conveyance of the printing medium is controlled on the basis of the output signals from the first and second encoder sensors when a tail end of the printing medium is located adjacent to the first conveyance roller.

  • Publication number: 20070140771
Abstract: The present invention provides a printing apparatus and method capable of printing an image in a rear end area of a print medium. A sheet is transported by a transport roller and pinch rollers situated upstream of a print head with respect to the transport direction, and by a discharge roller and spurs situated downstream of the print head. After the sheet has left the transport roller and the pinch rollers, it is transported by the discharge roller and spurs. The sheet is printed with a test pattern for detecting a difference between a transport amount appearing before the sheet leaves the transport roller and pinch rollers and a transport amount appearing when the sheet leaves them. Based on a correction value set according to a printed result of the test pattern, the transport amount used when the sheet leaves the transport roller and pinch rollers is corrected.

  • Patent number: 7073880
Abstract: This invention is intended to perform a mounting/dismounting or replacement of a print head and ink tank mounted on the carriage without contaminating a print medium including a tray when performing an ink jet printing using the tray. For this purpose, the tray guide that supports the tray so that it can be fed is removably mounted to the printing apparatus. Whether this tray guide is mounted to the printing apparatus is detected by the tray guide sensor. According to a result of detection by this tray guide sensor, the control unit for controlling the driving of the carriage controls the position of the carriage in the main scan direction.

  • Publication number: 20060038847
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide an ink jet printing apparatus that can print high quality images under simple control. The present invention includes a conveying roller disposed upstream of a printing section to convey a print medium, a pinch roller that rotates in cooperation with the conveying roller and discharging rollers that convey the print medium downstream of the printing section. The pinch roller, before a trailing end of the print medium reaches a nip portion between the conveying roller and the pinch roller moves from a pressure contact position with respect to the conveying roller. A conveyance amount of the print medium varies between before and after separation of the pinch roller from the conveying roller.

  • Publication number: 20060033943
Abstract: According to the present invention, to perform double-sided printing or marginless printing, overall image data consonant with an area that includes an area on a print medium and an overrun area are generated based on information concerning the size of the print medium and information concerning the overrun distances. To generate image data, the image data are prepared for both one side of the print medium and the other side of the print medium, so that, relative to the print medium, the position of the image data corresponding to one side matches the position, relative to the print medium, of the image data corresponding to the other side.

  • Publication number: 20050271437
Abstract: This invention minimizes a consumption of a colorant during a so-called margin-less printing and alleviates a contamination of an interior of a printing apparatus. For this purpose, when forming an image by applying a colorant to an area overrunning outwardly from the print medium, a width of overrun from the print medium in a colorant application area is adjusted according to a kind and a size of the print medium.

  • Patent number: 6939064
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to use a simple configuration to reduce the deviate of an image printed position caused by the behavior of a print sheet when the back end of the sheet slips out from an upstream roller pair. Thus, the present invention provides a printing apparatus including transporting section for transporting a print medium relative to printing heads for printing an image on a print sheet, the apparatus comprising vibrating section for vibrating the transporting section. This vibrating section vibrates the transporting section before the printing heads start a printing operation. Thus, even if the transporting section is stopped at an unstable position when a transporting operation is stopped, the applied vibration brings the transporting section into a stable state sufficiently before a printing operation is started.

  • Patent number: 6900611
Abstract: A recording apparatus includes a feed roller which feeds a paper sheet, a feed motor which drives the feed roller, and a loss-of-synchronism detecting unit which detects loss of synchronism of the feed motor. When loss of synchronism of the feed motor is detected by the loss-of-synchronism detecting unit, the rotational speed of the feed motor is reduced stepwise. Accordingly, it is not necessary to provide a high operational margin in the motor, and a recording apparatus, in which the motor and power supply costs are reduced, can be provided.

  • Patent number: 6655865
Abstract: An area on the printing sheet which can be printed through a single scanning operation of a printing head is divided into a plurality of smaller areas. The printing sheet is transported a distance corresponding to each divided area to print the image using different nozzles of the printing head for each divided area. When a back end portion of the printing sheet is printed, the distance transported is reduced to set inoperative nozzles that are not used for the printing operation. Then, when the printing sheet slips out from the upstream roller pair and it is then detected that the printing sheet is to be transported a distance longer than predetermined amount of rotation of the roller, the inoperative nozzles are used to shift an operative nozzle range depending on the extra amount of rotation. Thus, the extra transportation of the printing sheet is corrected.
