Abstract: A packaged fluid filter comprises a sealed canister fitted with fluid inflow means and fluid outflow means which communicate internally of the canister respectively with proximal ends of an axial flow filter element hollow core spool, and outflow face of wound tissue laid on said core spool, thereby serving to eliminate need for a fixed spool holder internally of the canister.

Abstract: Filtering apparatus comprising two rolls of wound tissue axially stacked with a discharge gallery separating them for receiving flow entering from the outboard ends of the stack is provided with an improvement for sealing the discharge gallery from short circuited flow entering it by placing tissue windings in overlapping arrangement with the periphery of the rolls to cover at least partially circumferential faces of the rolls and isolate the discharge gallery effectively without the use of sealing material dissimilar from the filtering medium.

Abstract: A filter is disclosed for removing contaminants from recirculating lubricant by causing the lubricant to flow interstitially between layers of wound fibrous tissue which are retained and sealed against channeling of lubricant flow past the filter medium by the interposition thereamong of an annular baffle, the seal being enhanced by imposition of hydraulic force component radially of the filter medium.
