  • Publication number: 20110171390
Abstract: A fixture assembly for use with air plasma spraying coating application processes includes a support member configured to be rotationally indexed, a first buttress, and a second buttress. The support member includes a first portion and a second portion fixedly supported by the first portion in a T-shaped configuration. The second portion has a first end and an opposite second end. The first buttress is secured to the second portion of the support member at or near the first end, with the first buttress configured to secure a first work piece. The second buttress is secured to the second portion of the support member at or near the second end, with the second buttress configured to secure a second work piece. The second buttress is arranged symmetrically with respect to the first buttress.

  • Patent number: 7939135
Abstract: A gas turbine engine is used for power generation or propulsion and includes vanes. Each vane includes a trailing edge having a curvature and cooling slots that cool the vane. A photochemical edge shield includes an edge and projections that project from the edge. Before coating the vane, the photochemical edge shield is positioned on the vane such that each of the projections is received in one of the cooling slots. A ceramic coating is then applied to the vane. The photochemical edge shield prevents the ceramic coating from entering and clogging the cooling slots of the vane during the ceramic coating process.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4089456
Abstract: An improved diffusion bonding fixture for holding workpiece surfaces in opposed contacting relation and exerting controlled pressure across the surfaces is disclosed. The fixture includes components having different thermal expansion characteristics which hold the workpiece surfaces together and generate pressure on the surfaces upon heating to the bonding temperature. The fixture also includes one or more pressure-controlling shim members disposed between the components of the fixture, the shim members being selectively and controllably deformed by the expanding components to control said bonding pressure at the desired value and to prevent unwanted distortion of the workpiece surfaces and fixture components. The fixture is especially useful in bonding workpiece surfaces of highly complex configurations, such as those associated with gas turbine blades, vanes and the like.
