  • Patent number: 7498081
Abstract: Aqueous chemical routes and finished compositions of a core-shell particulate material for application in crystallizable glass enamel are disclosed. A composition of particles containing a shell of inorganic oxides or mixed-metal inorganic oxides and a core material of complex inorganic colored pigment, wherein the shell material is comprised of any single oxide or combination of oxides is taught. Preferred elements of composition for the shell are oxides and silicates of Ti, Ni, Zn, Al, Zr, Si, Sn, Bi, Na, K, and B. Core materials may be any material commonly classified as a complex inorganic colored pigment. The resulting particles function in glass enamel formulations as coloring agents and additives for partial crystallization of the glass material, and provide modification of glass melt temperature, durability, acid resistance, and other desirable properties.

  • Patent number: 7341964
Abstract: The present invention provides glass compositions and glass coating systems for use on glass substrates in several industrial applications. It relates to a lead-free and cadmium-free glass enamel coating made primarily by utilizing at least one or more of lead-free and cadmium-free glass compositions comprising in weight percent from about 26% to about 63% SiO2, from about 2% to about 10.5% ZnO, from about 8% to about 20% B2O3, from about 0.1% to about 10% Bi2O3, up to about 12% Na2O, from about 0.1% to about 17% K2O, up to about 6% Li2O, from about 0.1% to about 22% of Ta2O5, from about 0.0% to about 22% of Nb2O5, up to about 8% from each of Al2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, BaO and SrO, from about 0.1% to about 7% Sb2O3, up to about 7% F2, up to about 4% from each of CaO, Mo2O3 and MgO, and from about 0.1% to about 4% of one or more of La2O3, Nd2O3, Pr2O3 and Ce2O3.

  • Patent number: 6105394
Abstract: The present invention provides lead and cadmium free glass enamel compositions. In one embodiment of the invention, glass frits include from about 0.1 percent by weight to about 15 percent by weight Nb.sub.2 O.sub.5, less than about 3 percent by weight alkali metal oxides, less than about 3 percent by weight ZnO, less than about 1 percent by weight B.sub.2 O.sub.3, and precursors from which Bi.sub.2 SiO.sub.5 can be crystallized upon firing, said precursors including Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3 and SiO.sub.2. Glass frits according to the present invention preferably further include up to about 25 percent by weight of coloring oxides, such as CeO.sub.2, Co.sub.3 O.sub.4, In.sub.2 O.sub.3, SnO, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, CuO, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, MnO.sub.2, MoO.sub.3, NiO, and V.sub.2 O.sub.5. By incorporating various amounts of coloring oxides into the compositions, the degree of crystallization and the rate at which crystallization occurs upon firing of the compositions can be controlled.
