  • Patent number: 8626309
Abstract: The implantable medical device is configured as a cochlear implant or the like. The implantable medical device includes a stimulator unit, an elongate electrode carrier in electrical communication with said stimulator unit, and an internal receiver unit. The internal receiver unit is configured as a suction cup having first and second convex cup portions. The first convex cup portion is adapted for mounting against a bone surface. Preferably, each of the first and second convex cup portions is formed from a resilient, flexible, biocompatible material. The second convex cup portion has a central bore formed therein. When the second convex cup portion is mated against the first convex cup portion, a threaded screw extends through the bore to contact the first convex cup portion and is tightened, thus compressing the first convex cup portion against the bone surface for suctional adhesion thereto.

  • Patent number: 8608774
Abstract: The bifurcated forceps is a tweezers-like instrument having two elongate, flattened arms joined at their mutual proximal ends, and each arm extends to a distal end having two laterally separated tines extending therefrom. The mutually facing surfaces of the corresponding tines of each arm are provided with serrations or teeth along the majority of their lengths, the facing serrations meshing with one another. The bifurcated forceps may have laterally straight arms, or laterally curved arms. Reusable forceps may be formed of surgical steel, and disposable forceps may be formed of a suitable plastic. The laterally separated tines enable the bifurcated forceps to grip a portion of tissue or other matter simultaneously at two separate points, thereby holding a greater span of the tissue clear of the underlying structure to facilitate surgical procedures and the like.

  • Patent number: 8535348
Abstract: The surgical needle holder includes two elongated arms having scissor finger loops on one end and a pair of needle gripping jaws on the opposite end. The elongated arms are pivotally attached to each other. ? first jaw is pivotally mounted via an actuator rod interconnecting the first jaw to one of the arms, opening and closing with respect to the second jaw as the elongated arms pivot with respect to each other. The jaws are designed to grip a surgical needle when in the closed position. Ratchet lock members attached to the elongated arms lock the jaws in the closed position in a manner similar to the locking of a hemostat. Mechanical configuration of the needle holder allows motion of the needles to be along any plane parallel to the longitudinal axle of the device while the surgeon's hand is in a neutral position.

  • Patent number: 8529495
Abstract: The middle ear ventilation tube is a ventilation tube for placement through an opening formed through the tympanic membrane to drain fluid from the middle ear to the ear canal or outer ear. The middle ear ventilation tube includes a hollow, substantially cylindrical tube having axially opposed first and second open ends. A first annular flange is formed about the first open end of the tube. The first annular flange defines a tapered angled edge for insertion through an opening formed through the patient's tympanic membrane. A second annular flange is formed about the second open end of the tube. The second annular flange has a tongue portion extending outwardly therefrom for grasping and manipulation. A notch is formed in the tongue portion, and a pair of recesses are formed in the second annular flange, each for engaging a needle for fine adjustment within the ear.

  • Patent number: 8529580
Abstract: The surgical grasping instrument having U-shaped jaws has a pair of handles connected to a pair of U-shaped jaws by a pair of elongated arms. The lower jaw is rigidly connected to the anterior end of the lower elongated arm. The upper jaw is pivotally connected to the anterior ends of the upper and lower elongated arms. The upper and lower arms are held together in sliding contact so that sliding the upper arm pivots the upper jaw. Both handles have finger loops. The rearward handle is rigidly attached to the lower arm, and is pivotally attached to the forward handle. The forward handle is attached to the upper arm by a ball and socket joint so that pivoting the handles pivots the upper jaw. The U-shaped jaws are designed to grasp round or semi round objects, such as a tympanostomy tube.

  • Publication number: 20130231661
Abstract: The electrosurgical midline clamping scissors includes a pair of elongate arms pivotal about each other at a common axis. Each arm includes a finger loop at one end and a jaw at the opposite end. Each jaw includes a midline cutting section and a grasping section on either side of a cutting blade in the cutting section. A wire is operatively connected from a generator to each arm to transmit electricity or radio frequency through electrical conductors inside the arms. The electrical conductors extend into the jaws to form a bipolar configuration. During use, as the jaws close, the jaws complete the circuit and simultaneously clamp, cut and electrocoagulate the target tissue.

  • Patent number: 8480611
Abstract: The middle ear ventilation tube is a drainage tube for placement through an opening formed through the tympanic membrane to drain fluid from the middle ear to the ear canal or outer ear. The middle ear ventilation tube includes a hollow, substantially cylindrical tube having axially opposed first and second open ends and a pair of diametrically opposed lateral drainage openings adjacent the first open end, thereby providing the tube with three drainage openings (the axial open first end and the two lateral openings). An annular flange is formed about the second open end and extends outwardly therefrom. In use, the tube is inserted through an opening formed through the tympanic membrane of a patient's ear so that the annular flange is positioned against the tympanic membrane within the middle ear, and the first open end and the pair of diametrically-opposed openings are positioned within the patient's car canal.

  • Patent number: 8382777
Abstract: The surgical needle holder has two elongated arms that end in expansions in the form of scissor finger loops for introducing the fingers and correspondingly actuating both arms. The elongated arms are pivotally attached to each other and have pivotally mounted jaws at the ends of the elongated arms. Bevel gear mechanisms interface the elongated arms with the pivotally mounted jaws so that separating the finger loops separates the jaws, and bringing the finger loops together closes the jaws to grip a surgical needle. The needle holder has ratchet lock members extending towards each other between the elongated arms in order to lock the jaws on the surgical needle, similar to the locking of a hemostat. By applying this gear configuration, the motion of needles will be along any plane parallel to the longitudinal axle of the device while the surgeon's hand is in a neutral position.
