  • Patent number: 5248523
Abstract: A method for coating an annular inclined surface of a part with a powder prior to sintering, in which a lower annular axial surface is provided below and extending the inclined surface of the part. Along the axis of the part, a central tool is arranged having a lower axial surface slidable relative to the lower annular axial surface and an annular inclined surface above the lower axial surface and facing the annular inclined surface of the part. The part and the tool define an annular gap which is closed at the bottom portion and which has an open annular upper end above the annular inclined surface and the inclined surface of the part. The annular gap is filled with a powder through the open upper end which is then closed, and the part with the lower annular axial surface and the central tool are then relatively displaced, causing the inclined surface of the part and the annular inclined surface to become closer and compress the powder against the annular inclined surface of the part.

  • Patent number: 5191955
Abstract: A brake fitting comprising a plurality of studs separated from each other by spaces, each stud made of a sintered friction product laterally sheathed by a less fragile sintered metal bead which extends into the spaces between the studs. The fitting further comprises a metal support having a surface on which the studs are fixed, the surface of the metal support being coated by grains of a braze-welding powder which are diffusion bonded thereto. The studs are continuously welded at their base portions to the coated metal support surface.

  • Patent number: 5124118
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a brake fitting comprising a plurality of studs each surrounded by a less fragile belt, the studs being non-contiguously secured to a metal support. According to the method, the support is provided with a slip-resistant surface by coating with a braze welding suspension which is oxidized and reduced. Stud blanks then are molded and compacted from powdered friction products and belt blanks are molded and compacted from metal powders and given an internal diameter 1.005 to 1.05 times the external diameter of the stud blanks, and the belt blanks are disposed around the stud blanks and sintered, obtaining sheathed stud blanks which are placed on the slip resistant surface of the support, and welded thereto by heat treatment. Finally, the sheathed stud blanks are forged at over 400 degree C., shortening them by at least 15%.

  • Patent number: 4608085
Abstract: The invention concerns a self-lubricating sintered bearing of antimony bronze, and method for its production, the bearing containing dispersed phases (3, 4, 5) which are harder than the matrix (11), of the following composition (% by weight):Sb 1.5 to 4%Sn 5 to 10% with Sn/Sb=1.3 to 3.5Cu+other elements and impurities: balance, and that its dispersed phases each consist of a diffusion halo (9, 10) in a condition of continuity with the matrix (11), said halo (9, 10) surrounding a microporosity (6, 7, 8) and being of a ternary intermetallic composition (Cu, Sn, Sb).The invention also concerns the process for the production of the self-lubricating sintered bronze bearings.

  • Patent number: 4008622
Abstract: In a method of testing a material to determine its suitability for forming at least a part of a self-lubricating bearing member containing oil by determining whether the material will cause deterioration of the oil, the material in powder form is immersed in the oil which is maintained for a period of time at a temperature at most equal to the maximum temperature of use of the oil, and the properties of the oil, e.g. viscosity and/or color, are compared with a sample of the oil maintained at the same temperature for the same length of time but which does not include the material.
