  • Patent number: 7028597
Abstract: In a perforating apparatus which has a holder to which a perforating blade can be fastened, the perforation is produced via the movement of a piston by the piston pressing against an air cushion, which in turn transmits this pressure to a perforating piston which presses the perforating blade downward. A positioning device which directly varies the position of the piston unit relative to the housing surface is provided for the zero setting of the piston.

  • Patent number: 6852073
Abstract: The side walls of a folder unit are embodied with opposed recesses. Additional processing elements, which enhance the variability of the folder unit, can be introduced into the recesses. It is especially advantageous in the recesses of the side walls of the folder unit to provide a processing element which is supported pivotably and has a delivery roller.

  • Patent number: 6086522
Abstract: Provided by the invention is a buckle-plate folding station including a first folding roller and two further contra-rotating fold-forming rollers and an adjustable buckle-plate folding unit. The intention of the invention is to provide a buckle-plate folding station enabling the point in time of fold formation to be determined. For this purpose means for detecting sheet infeed are provided in the buckle-plate folding station. The buckle-plate folding station further comprises means for detecting the deflection of at least one of the fold-forming rollers in forming the fold. Means for determining the sheet length fed between sheet infeed and formation of the fold are also provided.

  • Patent number: 4662620
Abstract: To provide for transfer of folded products, such as folded printed sheets received from a printing machine, between storage bins and a conveyor transport system, transport sheets which, at least in part, are magnetizable, are retained in the storage bins; a transfer element (9) in form of an endless elongated belt or the like has electromagnets secured thereto which are selectively energized to pick up the transfer sheets. The transfer element or belt is guided in a path past a delivery end (7") of a storage holder, then into the path of the transport system (2, 3) for transfer of folded products (1) from or to the sheets, and return of the sheets to a receiving end of the storage bin, at which point the magnets are deenergized to release the sheets into the bin, and can continue to travel--while deenergized--in an endless path for subsequent pick-up of sheets.

  • Patent number: 4646639
Abstract: To simply and reliably connect together clamping jaws located in the groove of a printing machine cylinder, while permitting secure and aligned positioning of jaw pairs holding the leading edge of a printing plate while permitting self-alignment or self-adjustment by pivoting movement of jaw pairs holding the trailing end, a bolt with an intermediate flange is screwed into the side wall of the groove, the jaw which is to positively position the leading end of the plate is engaged against the flange and located by a nut threaded on the bolt, the bolt previously having been adjusted to set the circumferential register of the plate by screwing into--and out--from the cylinder wall. The associated jaw of the pair clamps the plate in position.

  • Patent number: 4605213
Abstract: The folded items (9) arriving from a folding apparatus (1) are grasped on the leading folded spine (10) by forward grippers (12) on an opening cylinder (8). Then the overhang (11) of each item is grasped by rearward grippers (13). Because of centrifugal force and optionally by means of an electrostatic charging device (7), the lower part of the folded item (9), after being released from the conveyor belts (5, 6), is repelled. As a result, rods (14) secured on a chain system (15) can be introduced, during their upward movement that is at a tangent to the opening cylinder (8), it between the two halves of one printed item, after which the transporting of the folded items (9) to further chain systems (such as 17) can be effected. Subsequently, folded items (9) can be collected one on top of the other and/or accelerated or delayed in accordance with how the transfer location is embodied.

  • Patent number: 4605210
Abstract: A plurality of folding stages, in which each folding stage carries out a folding operation, in steps, are provided. The folding stages each have a folding roller pair (2, 2'. . . 5, 5'), one each roller being located above, and one below the web or superposed webs (6) to be folded. The folding roller pairs, except for the first, are formed with matching groove - ridge profile. The folding roller pairs are offset, in coordinates in space, with respect to the coordinates of a first roller pair which has cylindrical shape, such that the spacing of adjacent folding stations, e.g.

  • Patent number: 4487124
Abstract: To suppress shocks from being transferred to the walls of a cylinder (3) of a printing machine, when grooves (7) on the cylinder roll-off against another cylinder, and particularly against the edges of another groove (8) in an engaging cylinder, a damping mass (11) is filled within the cylinder which additionally retains an elastic shaft (12) on which an inertia mass (13) is secured. The inertia mass, preferably in form of a ball, is excentrally located on the elastic shaft (12) and touches at a point C the inner surface of the wall (10) of the cylinder (3) when the cylinder is in engagement with another one. The impact or shock, at the edge of the groove (7) rolls off against an engagement cylinder causes the inertia mass (13) to be accelerated towards the center of the cylinder, typically upwardly, and to place this mass into oscillations.

  • Patent number: 4480543
Abstract: A plurality of printing systems are stacked above each other to form a printing system tower assembly. Two such structures are provided, constructed in form of the mirror image. Each printing system, including a forme or gravure cylinder and a printing or impression cylinder, is closely associated with a drying chamber, within which hot-air dryers are located. The respective, stacked drying chambers are separated from each other by fire-resistant separating walls. A web is guided through the first printing system tower assembly and then, in similar manner, through the second mirror-image printing system tower assembly, to thereby permit prime and verso printing, in multi-color reproduction, without turning of the web. The dryers are energy-efficient since external radiation therefrom is effectively prevented due to their back-to-back positioning and construction.

  • Patent number: 4441390
Abstract: To permit continuous adjustment of separating rollers (10, 11) positioned downstream of cutter cylinders (3, 4) cutting sheets (7) from a continuous web (1) during operation of the machine, to adjust for different lengths of cut sheets, and accelerate the cut sheets to the circumferential speed of a gripper apparatus, the separating cylinders (10, 11) are mounted on a first carrier structure (38) which is longitudinally moveable independently of the drive therefore with respect to transport belts (8, 9) passing beneath the separating rollers, the adjustment spacing between the separating rollers being controllable, for example by compressed air cylinders (55). Drives, in order to reduce noise, preferably are by gear belts driven from the cutter cylinders, to provide for synchronized operation of the transport or conveyor belts, the separating cylinders (10, 11) and of subsequent transport apparatus, such as a gripper cylinder (12).
