Abstract: A mobile radio communications network within which a mobile radio communications device is to operate with access to a Small Data Transmission (SDT) feature is disclosed. The network includes a first network device arranged to receive SDT signalling initiated by the mobile radio communications device and a second network device arranged to receive signalling from the first network device as part of an establishment procedure for attempted SDT communications, the first network device being further arranged to determine if SDT should be prevented for the mobile radio communications device and responsive to its signalling exchange with the second network device, and to initiate a SDT rejection message for use in the control of the mobile radio communications device if SDT is to be prevented.

Abstract: The proposal relates to data transmission from a mobile radio communications device, such as those commonly referred to as User Equipment (UE) according to 3GPP specifications and scenarios requiring the transmission of small amounts of data, and in particular provide for a mobile radio communications device for communication within a mobile radio communications network, the device arranged for operation at least one Application requiring network access for data transmission and the network access including a Small Data Transmission feature, the device further being arranged to receive reference Application information by means of which it can be determined if an application seeking network access can employ the Small Data Transmission feature for its data transmission.

Abstract: There is provided a mobile radio communications device arranged to operate a DRX power saving procedure, the DRX procedure being defined by a schedule of planned DRX activity, and arranged to receive the signalling from a network device sent according to the schedule of planned DRX activity, and also to a mobile radio communications network device arranged for signalling to a mobile radio communications device operating a DRX power saving procedure, and arranged so as to control the said signalling according to a schedule of planned DRX activity within the mobile radio communications device, the devices forming part of a wireless communication system employing a DRX procedure.

Abstract: A system (1) is disclosed in which a network entity determines whether a radio bearer should be maintained or released for a communications device (2). The communications device (2) establishes the radio bearer via a base station (5) of the communications system (1) and communicates data using the established radio bearer. The communications device (2) determines whether any further data is to be sent or received and/or whether a user-plane connection is required. The communications device (2) then provides information to the network entity identifying a result of said determination for use in determining whether the radio bearer should be maintained or released.

Abstract: A communication system (100) is disclosed which uses system frames of a first and a second type. In a system frame of the first type communication with a mobile telephone (3) is subject to a restriction and in a system frame of the second type communication with said mobile telephone (3) is not subject to said restriction. It is determined whether or not to communicate with said mobile telephone (3), in a current system frame, in dependence on whether the current system frame is a first type of system frame or a second type of system frame.

Abstract: A system is disclosed in which a communications device communicates via a cell operated by a base station of a communications network. The communications device identifies that transmission of data to a communications node coupled to the communications network has been triggered; determines whether an indication of radio quality in the cell meets a required radio quality criteria responsive to the transmission being triggered. The transmitting element transmits the data to the communications network after a delay if the quality of radio signals does not meet the required radio quality criteria, and without the delay if the quality of radio signals meets the required radio quality criteria.
