  • Patent number: 5531225
Abstract: There is provided a measuring apparatus for alcohol contained in an exhalation, the measuring apparatus measuring concentration of alcohol with a high accuracy in a short time. An alcohol sensor is provided inside an air passage to measure concentration of alcohol contained in air passing through the air passage. The alcohol sensor has a sensing element for sensing alcohol and a heating element for heating the sensing element. A suction pump is provided to the air passage so as to suction air from an inlet of the air passage. The sensing element is situated inside an air trapping chamber so that the air flowing through the air passage does not directly hit the sensing element.

  • Patent number: 4680963
Abstract: A semiconductor flow velocity sensor having a semiconductor substrate and an electrical heating unit arranged on the substrate. The sensor located in the fluid flow to be measured can electrically detect the radiation from the heating unit which varies depending on the velocity of fluid flow. Thermal insulator is provided between the semiconductor (silicon) substrate and the heating unit so as to thermally shield the substrate from the heating unit. On the thermally isolated area of the substrate is provided an external sensor circuit so as to enable to increase the integration of the sensor.

  • Patent number: 4484135
Abstract: A hematocrit measuring instrument of the type which determines hematocrit of blood from the electrical resistivity of the blood is provided with a blood resistivity measurement device, an ultrafilter for filtering a part of the plasma from the blood, a filtrate resistivity measurement device for measuring the resistivity of the filtrate from the ultrafilter and an arithmetic circuit for calculating the hematocrit of the blood from the resistivities of the blood and the filtrate. The hematocrit measuring instrument is connected into a circulatory path for the blood outside of the patient's body and continuously measures the hematocrit of the blood from the resistivity of the blood and the resistivity of the filtrate from the ultrafilter.

  • Patent number: 4471786
Abstract: A telemetering intracranial pressure transducer comprises an airtight casing member housing a pressure-electric transducer for detecting an intracranial pressure, a pressure-receiving layer disposed in contact with the pressure-electric transducer and in pressed engagement with the dura under the skull, and a transmitting circuit for transmitting an output signal indicative of the intracranial pressure through a transmitting antenna. The transmitting circuit includes a telemetering transmission circuit, a microbattery and a switch for switching on and off the microbattery. The transducer thus constructed is entirely embedded below the head, dispensing with external wires or a receiving coil on the head, and detects an intracranial pressure safely and accurately without confining or disturbing the activities of a testee.

  • Patent number: 4274423
Abstract: A catheter tip pressure transducer for detecting the pressure in various portions of a living body accurately and safely comprises a pressure sensor disposed within the end portion of a catheter. The pressure sensor comprises a pressure sensitive diaphragm whereon strain gauges are formed by a diffusion method. The pressure sensor is mounted on an insulated supporting member without being secured firmly thereto. A protecting member made of silicone rubber fills the hollow portion of the catheter so as to isolate and protect the pressure sensor and the ambient body tissue.Pressure is accurately measured by the pressure sensor without being influenced by the thermal stresses which occur in the supporting member. Furthermore, electrical isolation and mechanical safety are obtained.
