  • Patent number: 8642524
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for controlling soot induced viscosity increase in diesel engines, by using as the diesel engine lubricant an oil formulation comprising a base oil containing about 10 to 80 wt % GTL base stock and/or base oil and/or hydrodewaxed or hydroisomerized/catalytic (or solvent) dewaxed base stock and/or base oil in combination with 20 to 90 wt % conventional Group I petroleum derived base oil, said base oil being further combined with a polymeric viscosity modifier, and to the lubricating oil which effects such control over soot induced viscosity increase.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 11, 2012
Date of Patent: February 4, 2014
Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: Heather M. Haigh, Brandon Thomas Weldon, Jason Zhisheng Gao
  • Patent number: 8501675
Abstract: A lubricant formulation and method of blending a lubricant formulation is disclosed. The lubricant formulation comprises at least two base stocks. The first base stock comprises a viscosity greater than 135 cSt, Kv100° C. and a tight molecular weight distribution as a function of viscosity. The second base stock comprises a viscosity less than 60 cSt, Kv100° C. The formulation also comprises a polyol ester. The lubricant formulation provides favorable properties.

Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: Heather M. Haigh, James T. Carey, Angela S. Galiano-Roth, Margaret M. Wu, Andrea B. Wardlow
  • Patent number: 8394746
Abstract: An additive package, lubricant formulation with the additive package and method of improving gear lubricant properties with the additive package are disclosed. The additive package comprises at least one antiwear additive, at least one antioxidant additive, at least one rust inhibitor additive, at least one metal passivator additive, at least one demulsifier additive, at least one defoamant additive wherein the composition has less than 3.5% phosphorous, less than 1.7% ppm nitrogen, less than 1000 ppm sulfur, less than 100 ppm metals and a TAN of less than 1.

  • Patent number: 7754663
Abstract: A premium wear resistant lubricant comprises a base stock, preferably a GTL liquid or the liquid isomerization product of slack wax or F-T wax, and a non-ionic ashless anti-wear additive. The non-ionic ashless antiwear additive is preferably at least one of thiosalicylic acid or alkyl ester thereof, thioxomalonate, 2,2-dithiopyridine and thiazolidine. The lubricant may also contain additional base stock materials selected from other hydrocarbonaceous and synthetic base stock materials in admixture with the GTL liquid or slack wax or F-T derived base stock.
