  • Patent number: 8534198
Abstract: A locomotive includes an engine compartment having two sidewall structures and inboard and rear end structures defining an engine enclosure. A top hatch cover a top opening of the enclosure, which houses an engine. A removable cap being generally box-shaped extends across a portion of the top opening adjacent the top hatch and also across a portion of each of the two sidewall structures. An engine pit opening is exposed when removable cap is removed. The engine pit opening is sufficiently large to accommodate lifting the engine out of the enclosure. The engine pit opening is partially defined by two side edges extending parallel to the centerline along sidewall structures, each of the two side edges being disposed at a clearance height that is lower than an overall height of the engine compartment.

  • Publication number: 20060131083
Abstract: An apparatus and method for connecting a track frame of a work machine to an equalizer bar are provided. The method may include aligning a connection pin into a partial open first bore formed on a connection structure of a frame member and aligning the connection pin into a partial open second bore formed on a cap member. The method may further include coupling the cap member to the connection structure so that the connection pin is held between the first and second bores and so that a cap shoulder, which may be arranged on the cap member, is disposed between the connection pin and the connection structure. Moreover, the method may include coupling the cap member to the connection structure so that the connection pin is held between the first and second bores and so that the cap member deforms about a deformation region, which may be disposed on the cap member.

  • Publication number: 20030015362
Abstract: A dividing wall between an engine compartment and an operator's compartment of an excavator is provided with an opening through which lines or tubes, such as hydraulic lines or air conditioning lines must pass. The lines or tubes have fittings at their ends which are larger than the lines or tubes, so that the opening, which is in center portions of the wall, has to be large enough to permit passage of the fittings through the wall. The tubes, which are smaller, thus leave portions of the opening uncovered when they are in place. The opening has a number of recesses along one edge that are of size to receive first portions of grommets that in turn surround the tubes. A seal plate that has mating recesses that receive other portions of the grommets extending into the opening is placed to cover the opening, support the grommets, and seal the opening to reduce the passage of heat, noise and the like through the wall when in place.
