Abstract: A method and an apparatus for synchronizing the keep-alive packet transmission timings of the direct push applications are provided to improve an electric current consumption characteristic. The method includes detecting a network event, synchronizing transmission timings of keep-alive packets of direct push applications with reference to an occurrence time of the network event, and transmitting the keep-alive packets of the direct push application at a synchronized transmission timing simultaneously.

Abstract: A method for controlling transmission power of a physical random access channel in a mobile communication terminal. The mobile communication terminal sets initial transmission power according to received signal code power when a preamble of the physical random access channel is transmitted to a mobile communication network. A wireless channel environment is identified on the basis of a value of the received signal code power when the preamble must be retransmitted. According to the identified wireless channel environment, transmission power used in a previous preamble is variably increased and retransmission power is set.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for cell search for transmitting an emergency call in a dual mode terminal supporting a Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) and a Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) are provided. A cell search for transmitting the emergency call is performed for all networks even though the network mode set by the user is different from the network installed in the region where the mobile communication terminal is located.

Abstract: A system and method of controlling a data rate of a user equipment (UE) for a packet data service in a mobile communication system is provided. In the system and method, a radio access bearer (RAB) assignment request message comprising maximum rate information is received. The maximum rate information indicates a requested data rate for the packet data service. An initial data rate is set to the requested data rate, and it is determined whether the initial data rate is available by checking available resources. If the initial data rate is not available, it is determined whether the initial data rate is the lowest of a plurality of levels of predetermined data rates. If the initial data rate is the lowest level, a RAB is established in a common channel state. If the initial data rate is available, a RAB is established at the initial data rate in a dedicated channel state.
