  • Publication number: 20050094082
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) with a direction control electrode and a pixel electrode forming a capacitance in a pixel regions is disclosed. Gate lines are formed on the first substrate and extending in the first direction. Data lines are intersecting the gate lines and each data line has a bent shape. Pixel regions are defined by the intersecting of the gate lines and the data lines. The direction control electrode is formed at the corresponding pixel region and electrically connected to the corresponding data line. The pixel electrode is formed at the corresponding pixel region and has a shape conformal to the corresponding pixel region. By adjusting the capacitance between the direction control electrode and the pixel electrode, liquid crystal stability is enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20050078263
Abstract: The invention is directed to an improved flat panel liquid crystal display (LCD). In one embodiment the improved LCD includes a liquid crystal layer that completely fills a gap formed between a color filter array and a thin film transistor (TFT) array. The TFT array includes a substrate that includes one or more pixel areas. Each pixel area may be divided into at least two pixel sub-areas. Each pixel sub-area is configured to have a different electric field than its counterparts, such that mutual compensation in the sub-areas decreases distortion of a gamma curve and improves lateral visibility of the flat panel display. In one embodiment, a first pixel electrode is formed in a first of the at least two pixel sub-areas; and a second pixel electrode is formed in a second of the at least two pixel sub-areas.

  • Publication number: 20050078253
Abstract: A thin film transistor array panel for an LCD, and an LCD with the array panel are disclosed. The film transistor array panel comprises a signal line formed on a substrate, and a second signal line, having at least a bent portion, formed on the substrate. A pixel area is defined by the first signal line and the second signal line, and a first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode are disposed in the pixel area. The pixel area has a bent shape, the first pixel electrode is coupled to a thin film transistor, and the second pixel electrode is coupled to the first pixel electrode.

  • Publication number: 20040233368
Abstract: A pixel electrode and a direction control electrode capacitively coupled to the pixel electrode are provided in a pixel. A pixel thin film transistor is connected to a gate line, a data line, and the pixel electrode. A direction control electrode thin film transistor is connected to a previous gate line, a previous data lines or a next data line, and the direction control electrode. The gate lines are supplied with scanning signals, and each scanning signal includes first and second pulses in a frame. The first pulse of a scanning signal is synchronized with the second pulse of a previous scanning signal.
