  • Publication number: 20070192730
Abstract: A method of managing application windows in an electronic device, an electronic device, and a computer program product. The electronic device comprises a processing unit for controlling functions of the device, a display connected to the processing unit for showing application windows, and an input device for issuing control commands, the processing means being configured to open the application windows of at least two different application programs onto the display. The processing unit is configured to indicate activation of a grip area for managing application windows on the display, detect a change in the location of the activated grip area on the display, indicated by an input device, and change the size of at least two application windows on the basis of the change in the location of the grip area.

  • Patent number: 6055427
Abstract: A network system of a radio system includes procedures and apparatus for updating, by means of which the usage parameters of a subscriber station are updated prior to a hard handoff, so as to be suitable for a connection intended to be in effect subsequent to the hard handoff. The network system also includes procedures and apparatus for assisting a hard handoff for selecting, on the basis of the results of measurements of a pilot signal, a best base station as a handoff candidate to which the hard handoff is performed when necessary. The network system also has procedures and apparatus recovery for reserving and recovering the initial connection of the subscriber station to the base station in case a hard handoff fails. Connection losses in hard handoff and interferences caused by the wrong transmitting power are thus reduced.

  • Patent number: 5799243
Abstract: For operating a cellular radio system which is subject to interference, the system measures the interference level on at least one radio frequency channel, and reports the measured interference levels, and decisions are made on system level actions using the measured interference levels as an aid in estimating how many new air interface communication links the system is able to tolerate.

  • Patent number: 5727034
Abstract: A communication system utilizes an external signal of high accuracy to maintain a good degree of accuracy of synchronization of base sites. A good example of such a signal is the signal transmitted by the global positioning system (GPS) or, a high accuracy PCM (pulse code modulation) or other high accuracy signal provided by a terrestrial transmission network including the base sites. When the synchronization to the GPS signal on one or more base sites cannot be achieved, the communication system employs an alternate synchronization source on those base sites that are missing the synchronization to the GPS signal. The alternate synchronization source is a separate local oscillator of the base site. To achieve the degree of synchronization accuracy provided by the GPS signal, the communication system learns the behavior of each and every local oscillator. This characterization is performed on each base site, and is done by utilizing the GPS signal when the GPS signal is present.

  • Patent number: 5266782
Abstract: An apparatus for a device, particularly a telephone, using a memory card or a smart card inserted into the device including means for checking the identification data of the card and for activating the desired function of the apparatus after the verification of the data. The apparatus may include a memory unit in which the verified identification data read in from the card is recorded and used to compare subsequent identification data read in from a card. Alternatively, the apparatus may compare identification data read in from a card against verification data permanently stored in the apparatus. The apparatus also includes a timer and a comparison means which, on the basis of the output signal of the timer, compare the identification data of the card with either identification permanently stored in the apparatus or verified data previously read in from a card that is recorded in the memory unit, and thus terminate operation if the compared identification data are not identical.
