  • Patent number: 4632673
Abstract: A pierceable port for injecting or withdrawing a fluid through a hollow needle inserted into a container. The port has a covering film securing a sterile pad of resealable material to a wall of the container having a portion pierceable by a needle. A tear strip is heat welded to the cover so as to form a removable tab comprised of a welded tear strip section, a welded cover section and an unwelded lap forming a grip for removing the tab. The tab is connected to an unwelded portion of the cover by a tear joint of substantially less tear strength than either the tab or the unwelded cover portion. The cover and the base member define a chamber for maintaining the sterility of the pad until the tab is removed to expose a sterile portion of the pad for insertion of the needle. A method for making the port is described.

  • Patent number: 4388354
Abstract: A selectively collapsible and expandable insulating curtain having a plurality of collapsible tubes, preferably of plastic material, extending longitudinally for its width and superimposed one on top of the other in a row in the direction of curtain height. Each tube has an upper wall and a lower wall secured together by bands of adhering contact on opposite sides of the tubular cavity. Additional bands of adhering contact secure superimposed tubes to each other longitudinally along midsections of the upper and lower walls. The side bands of contact define fold lines allowing collapse and expansion of the tubes as the curtain is raised and lowered, respectively, in the manner of a venetian blind. The curtain may include additional rows of superimposed tubes one adjacent to the other in the direction of curtain thickness.

  • Patent number: 4360355
Abstract: An improved method of simultaneously manufacturing a plurality of envelope assemblies of the type used to affix an insert such as a shipping label to a container. A plurality of separate strips of plastic material are arranged side-by-side on a single backing sheet of plastic material. Separate layers of adhesive are affixed to portions of the backing sheet extending on either side of each strip of plastic, with a separate, removable covering strip applied to each layer of adhesive until used. Each of the separate strips of plastic material is heat sealed to the backing sheet to create an envelope and slits are cut through portions of each plastic strip to provide entry into and exit from the respective envelopes. Finally, the plastic strips and backing sheet are cut to separate the envelopes from one another.

  • Patent number: 4316353
Abstract: A bag support and dispensing apparatus having a support shaft for supporting a plurality of stacked bags by engaging each bag in the stack through aligned apertures in the front and rear walls of the bag. A pivotally mounted, extending hanger is positioned opposite the support shaft to engage a front wall of the top-most bag in the stack through an associated aperture in the front wall, so that the bag is supported in an open loading position by the support shaft at the rear wall and the extending hanger at the front wall. The extending hanger may be pivoted forwardly and upwardly to disengage the hanger from the bag and to allow the bag to be easily removed from the bag support apparatus. The hanger falls back to a loading position after it is released.

  • Patent number: 4241561
Abstract: A bag support and dispensing apparatus including a sleeve that is passed through aligned apertures in a stack of bags to support the bags. A collar at the back end of the sleeve is detachably engaged with a support member. The forward end of the sleeve has a flange that is dimensioned to readily pass through an enlarged aperture in the top portion of the front wall of a bag when the front wall of the bag is pulled in a forward direction. The flange is also dimensioned to resist passing through a smaller aperture in the top portion of the back wall of the bag to allow the bag to be held in an open position for receiving articles. A loaded bag is disengaged from the sleeve by pulling the bag in a forward direction with sufficient force to distend the smaller rear aperture so that the flange passes through the smaller aperture to release the back wall of the loaded bag.
