Patent number: 9369498Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a system for controlling a processing load in a packet data network, wherein a load control information is set in a predetermined field of a message. The load control information is then checked on the routing path of the message and a processing resource of the packet data network is selected in response to the result of checking step. Thereby, load balancing information can be provided at the network to thereby provide an efficient balancing and load sharing function without heavy string comparisons and data base queries.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2003Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Petteri Ylä-Outinen, Mikael Latvala, Lauri Lahtinen, Heikki Tuunanen, Ilkka Westman, Bernhard Höneisen

Patent number: 7925762Abstract: The invention relates to a communication method and system wherein a network element of a roaming user is attachable to a visited first network and be served by a serving means of the home network. When the network element of the roaming user is registering or initiating a connection to a called network element of the visited network, a network element of the visited network, such as proxy means, either adds information on the called network element or on a service element of the visited network when sending a message to the home network. The message is preferably sent as a protocol message, in particular a message of the Session Initiation Protocol.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2000Date of Patent: April 12, 2011Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Risto Kauppinen, Heikki Tuunanen

Patent number: 6760425Abstract: The invention concerns interworking between distributed services in a telecommunications network, especially in an intelligent network. The invention is based on the idea that at least one new Interworking Point is introduced to the call handling model and with the aid of this Interworking Point the interworking between the distributed services is implemented. The Interworking Point can be defined as either a point where instructions received from one service program are reported to interested service programs or as a point where a service to be carried out by the responsible service program is requested by some other service program. The interworking points are armed by the service programs, and the service programs which armed the interworking point are informed of the encounter with an interworking point.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2001Date of Patent: July 6, 2004Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Heikki Tuunanen

Patent number: 6631275Abstract: When the user lifts the receiver, the terminal of a wireless local loop telephone system detects this and generates a dial tone as normally. The user starts dialing. But instead of waiting for completion of dialing, the terminal immediately sends a channel request message to the network. This triggers the exchange of normal messages with the result that a signaling channel is assigned, an authentication procedure is performed and the ciphering mode is set up during the time when the user is pressing keys to give a called subscriber's telephone number. Because dialing is still in process and the called subscriber's number is not yet available, the terminal puts a predetermined pseudonumber into a message which normally carries the called subscriber's number. The pseudonumber informs the network that the terminal will send the telephone number of the called subscriber later. The number will arrive as DTMF digits on the assigned signaling channel.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2000Date of Patent: October 7, 2003Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Markus Martin, Heikki Tuunanen

Patent number: 6594356Abstract: Services controlling the same call state model are independent of each other and do not necessarily have any knowledge of each other. To make the facilities of these parallel controlling services interoperable, at least one parameter is defined, whose value indicates whether a controlling service may be initiated to control a control record, if a controlling service has already been initiated. When detecting (301) a situation triggering the initiation of a second controlling service in the control record controlling call set-up, the initiation of the second controlling service is continued (315), if the parameter allows the initiation of the controlling service.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Heikki Tuunanen, Harri Ylieskola, Jari Eikkula
