  • Publication number: 20060156383
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for smart buffering for a policy resolution and policy enforcement system. The invention can be applied to a communication system with one or several available communication network(s). The trigger events and policy actions form input and output buffers to be processed in the invention. Causal relationships between the trigger events and policy actions are stored. Priorities can be set to the trigger events and policy actions. Sorting is made according to priorities. The buffer data can be scheduled, in other words delayed, in order to rationalize the policy management. The buffer data is combined if several trigger events affect the same target or quantity. The buffer data is filtered in the last step in order to simplify chained trigger events. The trigger events of filtered input buffer are sent to the policy resolution mechanism and the policy actions of filtered output buffer are sent to the policy action enforcement.

  • Publication number: 20060111113
Abstract: A virtual private network has an internal secured portion which connects to an external portion, the network via at least a first gateway and via a second gateway. There are a plurality of workstations including at least one mobile workstation in the external portion. The network automatically changes the point through which the mobile workstation communicates with the internal portion of the network from the first gateway to the second gateway, in response to movement of the mobile workstation. Context information is transferred to the second gateway. The context information includes an identifier of the mobile workstation and may also include material for defining secure communication means by which information is transferable securely between the mobile workstation in the external portion of the network and the internal portion of the network, via the second gateway.

  • Publication number: 20060001542
Abstract: A system for monitoring mobile personal items which are equipped with a radio-frequency tag includes user equipment having a number of elements. The user equipment includes a radio frequency tag detector which is capable of detecting a radio frequency tag. The user equipment is also capable of performing an earlier and a later operation of the detector, and compares the outputs of the detector for the earlier and later operations and provides a monitor output dependent on the comparison. The monitor output indicates whether a personal item which is detected as being present on the earlier operation is present on the later operation.

  • Publication number: 20050146600
Abstract: This invention provides a handset (10) and a method of operating a handset. The handset includes a user interface that contains a data entry device (20) and a visual display device (14), a camera (16) and a controller (12) coupled to the visual display device and to the camera. The controller operates under the control of a stored program (22A) for displaying to a user an image representative of at least a portion of an environment of the user as seen through the camera during a time that the user is interacting with the user interface. The controller may further operate under control of the stored program to process images generated by the camera to detect a potential for a collision with an object that is present in the environment of the user, and to warn the user of the potential for a collision.

  • Publication number: 20040268132
Abstract: A user terminal includes an RFID reader. When the user swipes or otherwise places the reader in proximity to a compatible RFID tag, the RFID tag sends a set of information to the terminal. This set of information contains the identifier of the preferred network point of connectivity (e.g. an IP address), as well as possible authentication information. Because of the short range, the information is not broadcast to a large audience. The information can also be encrypted, in which case only previously known keys allow the terminal to use the tags.
