  • Patent number: 5132264
Abstract: The instant invention relates to concentrated water soluble organic salts of the lanthanides, particularly the cerium salts which are useful in the production of exhaust emission reduction catalysts. The preferred compositions comprise cerium acetate with gluconic acid and excess acetic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 1, 1991
Date of Patent: July 21, 1992
Inventors: Heiko Mauermann, Nicholas A. Sullo
  • Patent number: 5099006
Abstract: Alkoxy-type derivative compounds are a process for preparing alkoxy-type derivatives of trivalent Group 3b metals, e.g., cerium (III), such as alkoxides, siloxides or alkanolatoamines from an anhydrous complex of trivalent Group 3b metals, e.g. cerium ammonium nitrate complex, in the presence of an alcohol, silanol or alkanolamine and a base or by employing the complex and alkali salts of the alcohol, silanol, or alkanolamine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 8, 1988
Date of Patent: March 24, 1992
    Assignee: Rhone-Poulenc Inc.
Inventors: Peter S. Gradeff, Heiko Mauermann, Kenan Yunlu, Carlos M. Ramirez
  • Patent number: 4920204
Abstract: Ceric hydrocarbyloxy nitrates having the general formula: ##STR1## are obtained by reaction of ceric ammonium nitrate with x moles of ammonia and an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic alcohol having from two to twenty carbon atoms, and are useful in the preparation of ceric hydrocarbyl oxides difficult or expensive of access by other routes, and in synthesis of other organic ceric compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 12, 1987
Date of Patent: April 24, 1990
    Assignee: Rhone-Poulenc Inc.
Inventors: Peter S. Gradeff, Fred G. Schreiber, Jean Grosbois, Heiko Mauermann
  • Patent number: 4801666
Abstract: The reaction of the organolanthanide complexes [.eta..sup.5 --(CH.sub.3).sub.5 C.sub.5 ].sub.2 MCl.sub.2.sup.- Li((C.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.2 O).sub.2.sup.+, M=La, Nd, Sm, Lu, with LiCH[Si(CH.sub.3).sub.3 ].sub.2 provides a straight-forward route to ether-free and halide- free bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) lanthanide alkyls, (.eta..sup.5 (CH.sub.3).sub.5 C.sub.5).sub.2 MCH--[Si(CH.sub.3).sub.3 ].sub.2. The (.eta..sup.5 (CH.sub.3).sub.5 C.sub.5).sub.2 NdCH[Si(CH.sub.3).sub.3 ].sub.2 complexes react with H.sub.2 under mild conditions to yield the corresponding hydrides [(.eta..sup.5 (CH.sub.3).sub.5 C.sub.5).sub.2 MH].sub.2. These complexes have been found to be extremely active homogeneous olefin polymerization catalysts, as well as catalysts for olefin and acetylene hydrogenation.
