  • Patent number: 5695206
Abstract: In a bicycle, the front wheel mudguard is fastened with the aid of wire-shaped stays which are in each case bent to form an eye at that end which is adjacent to the axle of the wheel. The eye is held by latching in a receiving pocket which is located in a shaped part fastened to the front wheel fork. In this manner, the front wheel is prevented from locking should objects penetrate into the gap between the mudguard and the tire while in motion.

  • Patent number: 5090717
Abstract: To permit horizontal alignment of a baggage or luggage carrier frame (11) in which the luggage carrier is supported by at least two support legs (16, 17) extending from side elements (12, 13) of the frame and converging to a holder (18) attached to the bicycle frame adjacent an axle receiving portion (6) thereof, the legs are coupled to the longitudinal elements (12, 13) of the frame by releasable attachment elements (37, 52, 56, 61), which permit sliding of the support legs along the longitudinal side elements so that the support legs can be located along the side legs at arbitrarily selected positions and thus permit horizontal alignment of the baggage carrier with bicycles having attachment points for the baggage carriers at various selected locations and/or being designed, respectively, for wheels of various diameters.

  • Patent number: 4840298
Abstract: To permit universal attachment of a luggage carrier (2) to a bicycle frame (1), and particularly to a cross element (9, 69) secured to the rear fork (6a, 6b) of the frame, a clamping element (22, 322, 422, 622) is provided for joining the end portion of the luggage carrier to the bicycle frame. The clamping element is formed with an engagement surface (24, 25, 26, 71a) fitting on, matching and engaging a portion of the cross brace (9, 69) with a projection-and-recess fit. The clamping element and the cross brace are attached together, for example by the same screw which can hold a caliper brake. The clamping element is, further, formed with at least one recess (35, 335, 62, 74, 75, 71), shaped and dimensioned to receive at least part of an extending end portion of the luggage carrier and extending essentially at right angles to the rear fork. This end portion may be formed by a cross element (13) or by free ends (411, 412) extending from the luggage carrier.

  • Patent number: 4759481
Abstract: A mounting apparatus for a cycle headlamp, particularly for a bicycle headlamp, features a mounting bracket (13) which can clamp onto a horizontally disposed strut of the cycle frame or of a cycle accessory, such as a baggage carrier. The cycle headlamp has a reflector housing (9) which is rotatably coupled to the upper end of the mounting bracket (13). The lower end (14) of the mounting bracket is bifurcated into upper (15) and lower (16) legs or jaws, which define a bight or maw (18) having an interior clamping surface (17) which is preferably half-cylindrical but may also be polygonal. A further clamping element (24, 25) is supported by the jaws (15, 16) and presses the strut (7) between itself and the clamping surface (17). This mounting is very secure and resists twisting torques.

  • Patent number: 4708665
Abstract: The invention proposes an electrical contact terminal arrangement for cycle fenders constructed from a molded multi-layer laminate of plastic with at least one metal foil layer embedded therein. The arrangement includes a metal head having a substantially flat underside which is pressed against an outer surface of the fender. A shaft-like projection is formed onto the underside of the head, extending at right angles to the underside and when mounted penetrating the fender. An attachment means anchored on this projection secures the contact terminal arrangement in the cycle fender. In order to attain long service life of the contact location between the metal foil and the contact arrangement projection, and to attain low transitional resistance, only one shaft-like projection is provided, disposed concentrically with the head. A large number of contact protrusions is embodied on the outer circumference of the shaft-like projection, extending in the longitudinal direction thereof.

  • Patent number: 4690420
Abstract: To provide for vibration-resistant, self-centering, and universal attachment of an accessory such as a luggage carrier (3) or a kickstand (4) to essentially parallel or slightly divergent support struts (8, 12) of a cycle, such as a bicycle, moped, and the like, an attachment element is formed with a central portion (18) and two lateral flange or wing portions (19, 21), the central portion having a bore (24) extending therethrough. The flange portions (19, 21) are similar wedge-shaped elements with upper and lower surfaces diverging from outer end portions (33, 34) towards the central portion (18) to define, in cross section in a plane parallel to the axis of the aperture and transverse to the struts, triangular elements having bases (22, 23) adjacent the central portion, which bases may be extended into ribs if the wing or flange portions and the central portion are formed with hollows.

  • Patent number: 4658998
Abstract: A front wheel side luggage carrier (1) for bicycles comprises a strut arrangement (4) having two struts (7, 8), which when in the position of use extend substantially vertically and approximately parallel to a plane that intersects the front axle of the bicycle at right angles, and having an upper and a lower attachment arrangement (5, 6). Via these arrangements, the side luggage carrier (1) is secured to adjacent legs of the front wheel fork (2) at two points, one of which is located near the front axle and the other is spaced apart therefrom. In order to provide a simple structure, which even under adverse conditions will not tend to vibrate during the ride and which will be largely independent of the shape of the front wheel fork (2), the two vertical struts (7, 8) are joined integrally together at their lower end by means of a connecting cross portion (11), which bears the lower attachment arrangement (6).

  • Patent number: 4537338
Abstract: A baggage carrier for two-wheeled vehicles includes a frame forming the supporting surface for the baggage and respective pairs of support legs at each side extending downward from the frame. The legs extending toward one another in the form of a V and secured, optionally in an articulated manner, to the frame are bent at their ends in such a manner that they extend approximately parallel to and spaced apart by a short distance from one another. The free ends of the legs of each pair of legs are adjustably secured on an extension piece of the vehicle frame by means of a clamping part, which has a bore for a fastening screw that passes between the two ends of the legs and through a bore in the extension piece.
