  • Patent number: 5770141
Abstract: A process is described for the production of a curable multi-component reaction mixture (and, in particular, a polyurethane), containing filler in which the reaction components are premixed and then mixed with the dry filler in a friction mixer having a conically shaped screw rotatable in a conical mixing chamber. The friction mixer is preferably operated under a fractional load at a low rotational speed.

  • Patent number: 4695166
Abstract: A piston metering device for the production of a plastic material from at least two flowable reaction components. This device is basically composed of (a) a hydraulic driving mechanism, (b) two piston cylinder units, (c) a mixer head and, optionally, (d) a control device common to at least one of the piston cylinder units. This device permits rapid and simple adjustment of the metering ratio of reaction components by adjustment of throughput. Such adjustment is accomplished by means of regulating elements made of hydraulic motors rigidly coupled to one another.

  • Patent number: 4680003
Abstract: Apparatus for producing moldings from flowable reactive components comprising(a) a mold assembly having two halves surrounding a mold cavity,(b) a mixing device for combining said reactive components mounted on said mold assembly, said mixing device having a mixing chamber,(c) a supply channel in said assembly for supplying said components from said mixing chamber to said mold cavity,(d) a throttle device located between said mixing chamber and said mold cavity, said throttle device capable of moving into and out of said supply channel in a direction transverse to the orientation of said supply channel, thereby forming a throttle zone in said supply channel,(e) a relaxation chamber located in said supply channel between said throttle device and said mold cavity, said apparatus further characterized in that the dividing plane which separates the mold assembly into halves extends through said supply channel, said throttle zone and said relaxation chamber.

  • Patent number: 4477191
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a mixing head for mixing at least tw flowable components which preferably form a foam during their reaction. The mixing head comprises a housing, in which a guide bore for a discharge piston is positioned, one section of this guide bore being designed as a mixing chamber, into which nozzle openings of injection members, positioned equidistant around the housing, discharge. In the mixing position of the discharge piston, the mixing chamber is bounded by the leading edge of the piston, with an outlet opening being provided opposite the piston. A choke member, which adjoins the mixing chamber and is movably positioned in a guide recess extending perpendicular to the guide bore and transversely beyond the axis or plane of the injection members, has a passage, the cross section of which corresponds to the cross section of the discharge piston such that the piston may enter this passage in its cleaning position.

  • Patent number: 4368847
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to an injection nozzle for mixheads for the production of foams or solids from at least two flowable reaction components, comprising a nozzle housing with a nozzle needle guided in it which is provided with a positive control and cooperates with a nozzle opening, wherein a feed pipe and a return pipe end upstream of the nozzle opening in said nozzle housing and wherein said nozzle needle in its closed position connects said feed pipe and said return pipe to each other via a connecting channel, characterized in that said nozzle needle is divided into a needle core and a needle sleeve which surrounds said needle core and is guided on it, wherein said needle core cooperates with said nozzle opening and is pin-less in design and wherein said needle sleeve is provided with said connecting channel; and in that, when switching over from injection to return, said needle core is located in the closed position sooner than said needle sleeve in the return position, and when switching ov

  • Patent number: 4291991
Abstract: The invention is directed to an apparatus for the preparation of a reaction mixture, from fluid components, comprising storage tanks, feed pipes leading from said storage tanks to a mixing head via metering pumps and opening into a mixing chamber via injection apertures, said mixing chamber formed by the bore of a housing, a control piston displaceable within said bore and being capable of blocking flow through said apertures, return lines branching off upstream of said apertures and leading up to said storage tanks, and a shut-off means for stopping the flow of said material through at least one of said return lines, the activation of said shut-off means being dependent upon the position of said control piston within said bore.

  • Patent number: 4257992
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, and an apparatus, for the production of articles which consist of filler-containing synthetic material, in particular a foam, wherein flowable reactants, at least one of which has previously been charged with filler, are injected into a mixing zone under predetermined injection pressures, wherein the reaction mixture is subsequently introduced into a mold.Cellular materials such as flexible, semi-rigid, rigid or structured foam based, for example, on polyurethane or isocyanurate, and also non-cellular materials such as elastomers, may be produced by methods of this type.
