  • Patent number: 4640545
Abstract: A lock for an infant restraint used in a vehicle with a normally reclining shell in which a child is received. In a frontal crash the lock releases in the shell so that the shell and child pivot downwardly to a generally vertical position thereby greatly reducing the risk of injury and usually preventing injury of the child. To minimize the force required to release the lock, a roller bearing catch is engaged by a hook latch. The lock is normally latched and is released in a frontal crash by the inertia of a flyweight. To prevent the latch from being released during normal operation of the vehicle by forces produced by vibration, bumps and the like, preferably the flyweight and hook are connected by a lost motion coupling, a movable stop releasably engages the hook and the flyweight is yieldably biased toward the locked position.

  • Patent number: 4480870
Abstract: An infant restraint for use in a vehicle has a frame adapted to be securely fastened to the vehicle seat and on which an infant support shell is pivotally mounted and yieldably retained in a position for supporting the infant in a comfortable, somewhat reclining position. When the restraint is mounted on a vehicle seat with the shell in a rearward-facing direction, the shell swings to a more erect position in the event of a frontal crash, thereby avoiding injury to or ejection of the infant from the restraint.

  • Patent number: 4372122
Abstract: An operator in which a plurality of explosive propellant cartridges are received in individual chambers and may be rapidly fired one at a time in sequence. The cartridges are fired by an electric current sequentially directed to the cartridges by a distributor. The gas produced by the firing of each cartridge is admitted through control valving to a common receiver. The gas in the common receiver may act on a piston to actuate a device or it may be conveyed by a conduit to a device to actuate it.

  • Patent number: 4113306
Abstract: A device adapted to be used as either a safety restraint seat for a child in a vehicle or as a stroller. The device comprises a shell provided with wheels and with a handle adjustable to a first position extending upwardly and rearwardly for using the device as a stroller and to a second position extending downwardly below the shell for engaging a vehicle floor structure when the shell is placed on a vehicle seat in a rearwardly-facing position.

  • Patent number: 4067608
Abstract: A child restraining device adapted to be secured on a vehicle seat and having a pair of legs adapted to engage the floor structure of the vehicle. The legs, in combination with a conventional seat belt, are designed to retain the device in a stable position on the vehicle seat with the child disposed in an inclined supine position facing either forwardly or rearwardly. The device includes a shield located in front of the child. The arrangement is designed to reduce the probability of serious head or other injury to a child in the event of a collision.
