  • Patent number: 8644113
Abstract: A receiving device captures sounds signals (e.g., ultrasonic) from multiple sound signal sources, selects the sound signals satisfying a reliability condition for use in determining an initial position of the receiving device relative to the corresponding sound signal sources, determines the initial position of the receiving device using multilateration of the selected sound signals, and updates the current position of the receiving device as the reliability of individual sound signals varies in the presence of dynamically changing environmental interference, multipathing, and movement between the receiving device and the sound signal sources.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 2011
Date of Patent: February 4, 2014

  • Publication number: 20120239504
Abstract: On-premise virtual shopping assistance is provided via a mobile device and other networked user interface devices. The assistance can be based on various context parameters associated with the shopper, including without limitation location, past shopping behavior, shopping list content, store layout, inventory, social networking characteristics, in-store activity, perceived shopper intent, etc. Based on such context information, a retailer and/or a manufacturer can provide relevant information to an on-premise shopper, including without limitation product/service promotions (e.g., discounts), product/service specifications (e.g., nutritional information) and recommendations and on-premise routing information. Such information may be presented to the user through a mobile device or via on-premise displays that respond to the shopper's location within a store.
