  • Patent number: 4614598
Abstract: Centrifugal separator drum (FIG. 1) for the clarification and separation of liquids, having one or more paring systems 12, 13 for the removal of the clarified or separated liquids, a stationary inlet tube 11 which communicates with a smooth, cylindrical inlet chamber 18, which rotates with the drum and is affixed to the latter, via an opening that is slightly larger than the inlet tube. Outlets ports 20 lead out of the inlet chamber into a forechamber 21 which communicates on the one hand with an annular chamber 24 situated ahead of the inlet chamber and on the other hand with the riser passages 23 of the plate insert 4.

  • Patent number: 4369698
Abstract: An arrangement for continuously separating fruits has a housing, a sieve element rotating in the housing and a hammer element rotating inside the sieve element, wherein the sieve element rotates with the speed which is lower than the speed of rotation of the hammer element and the relation between the speeds of rotation of the hammer element and the sieve element is within the region of between 2:1 and 4:1. A method of continuously separating fruits include withdrawing the extracted fruit juice from the inventive arrangement and supplying the same into a screw centrifuge so as to clarify the fruit juice in the latter and to produce a white wine. Red pigment of the fruit skin can be introduced into the fruit juice so as to produce a red fruit wine.

  • Patent number: 4147293
Abstract: A continuously operating counterflow centrifugal extractor suitable for liquid-liquid extractions wherein solids can be separated with the heavier phase. The extractor (FIG. 1) includes a horizontally disposed drum 8, 9 rotated by pulley 15 which is mounted on hollow shaft extension 6. A transport screw 10 is mounted on a shaft 11 and is rotated by forces developed in the liquid at a rate different than the rate of rotation of the drum. The two liquids are introduced into opposite ends of a mixing zone A. After mixing the heavier phase passes through clarification zone C to outlet 20 and the lighter phase passes through the clarification zone B and on to pump 21 which is mounted on shaft 11 and rotates with the transport screw 10. The difference in rotation rates can be controlled by operation of a throttle 27.

  • Patent number: 4017023
Abstract: Self-cleaning, air-tight drum centrifuge (1a) having flange packing (4) between the stationary discharge conduit (2) for clarified liquid and the rotating neck (7a) of the drum 7. Leaking of air past packing 4, when solids are discharged from the drum in the intermittent self-cleaning step and a vacuum develops in the drum chamber 7b, is prevented by providing in the passageway (11a) between the drum chamber 7b and the discharge conduit 2, a siphon-like section 11. By properly dimensioning the siphon-like section, pressure of more than 1 atmosphere is maintained in the liquid contained in the siphon-like section, whereby such leaking is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4015772
Abstract: Centrifuge for use in sterilization of liquids, e.g., milk, by removal of bacteria as a sludge or concentrate. A chamber (e.g., 13) for the concentrate is disposed outwardly of the drum separating chamber (e.g., 9) and communicates with the separating chamber via a narrow gap (e.g., 12). Passageways (e.g., 14) are provided for discharge of the sludge from the concentrate chamber. Thereby accumulation of sludge in the separating chamber is limited so that the possibility of infecting the purified liquid with sludge is reduced.

  • Patent number: 3990632
Abstract: Centrifugal separator for separating a specifically lighter component via a discharge passageway (14) therefor, a specifically heavier component via a discharge passageway (5a, 10, 11, 13) therefor and collection of a solids component in a solids collecting zone (29). Passageways for discharge of solids are provided at the radial periphery of the drum and valve means are provided for periodically opening of the solids discharge passageways. The invention provides automatic control means for actuation of the valve means for discharging of solids. The control means comprises control fluid passageway (3a, 6, 7, 9, 15) having an inlet (3b) disposed outwardly of the inlet (5b) of the specifically heavier fraction discharge passageway (5a), and including a control chamber (7), and bore (15) which conveys the control fluid to the separated specifically heavier fraction for discharge therewith.

  • Patent number: 3981437
Abstract: Centrifuge with a drum having an insert lining spaced from and supported on the drum wall for flow of a heat exchange medium through the passage between the drum and insert. The drum is jacketed by a stationary frame member outfitted with heat exchange means, and the outlet from the passage in the drum communicates with the passage provided by the jacket. After flowing down the jacket, the heat exchange medium is pumped back to the passage in the drum.

  • Patent number: 3976242
Abstract: Centrifuge having a self-emptying clarifying drum outfitted with a clarified liquid paring chamber 7 and a clarified liquid paring disc 6. For controlling of emptying of the drum, an auxiliary paring chamber 4 is communicated via a control liquid passageway 9 with the sludge chamber 1. A first auxiliary paring disc 3 is disposed in the auxiliary paring chamber 4, and a second auxiliary paring disc 5, which is smaller in diameter than the first auxiliary paring disc, is disposed in the clarified liquid paring chamber 7. An auxiliary passageway 10, 12 communicates the first and second auxiliary paring discs 3, 5 so that control liquid flows from the auxiliary paring chamber 4, through the auxiliary passageway 10, 12 to the clarified liquid paring chamber 7.
