Patent number: 4818925Abstract: Device for setting the working point of a tool with respect to a reference point in an NC machine tool with a tool slide system and a path measuring system for the tool slide motion which is connected to a machine control system, and with a control sensor for transmitting a correction signal to the machine control system. The control sensor can be brought to the reference point, up to and over which the tool point can be moved by program control, starting from a starting point of the tool slide. The starting point of the tool slide and the reference point are spaced at a specified distance from one another and distances of the tool point from the starting point of the tool slide can be balanced by the machine control system against reference distances which can be evaluated by the machine control system on the basis of the correction signal and also on the basis of path measurement signals of the path measuring system.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1987Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Assignee: Index-Werke KG Hahn & TesskyInventors: Heinrich Lahm, Walter Grossmann, Gunther Schleich

Patent number: 4700442Abstract: A tool changing apparatus for a machine tool comprising, adjacent an operating space, an indexable tool carrier displaceable in two feed directions defining a plane of movement and comprising a plurality of tool receiving means each including a holding means, which is provided with a clamping device, for inserting and securely clamping a base of a tool as well as a clamping element having a predetermined direction of movement for tightening and releasing the clamping device, and also comprising a tool gripping device having an actuating device adapted to be coupled to the clamping element.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1986Date of Patent: October 20, 1987Assignee: Index-Werke Komm.-Ges. Hahn & TesskyInventor: Heinrich Lahm

Patent number: 4587871Abstract: NC turret lathe comprising a tool turret rotatable about an indexing axis and mounted for rotation in a turret slide displaceable in a direction parallel to the indexing axis, also comprising a turret indexing drive monitored by a control mechanism for rotating the tool turret, and a slide drive monitored by a control mechanism for displacing the turret slide. In order to decrease the expenditure required to index the tool turret, the slide drive also constitutes the turret indexing drive, and the slide drive control also serves to monitor the turrent indexing drive. An actuatable coupling is provided between the slide drive and the turret to prevent undesired rotation of the turret when it is only to be slidably displaced.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1983Date of Patent: May 13, 1986Assignee: Index-Werke KG Hahn & TesskyInventor: Heinrich Lahm

Patent number: 4061061Abstract: Lathe apparatus is disclosed which in one form is an automatic turret lathe in which a single turret head is provided that can support a plurality of tools for performing machining operations on inside and outside surfaces of a workpiece carried on the live spindle of the lathe. The axis of the turret head is disposed at a preferred angular relationship to the axis of the live spindle, and the receiving or mounting surfaces for the inside and outside machining tools are disposed alternately around the axis of the turret head in planar arrangements that provide optimum operating conditions for utilizing the outside and inside machining tools on a single turret head. An attachment for preturning of workpieces is provided which can be mounted on the headstock to perform cutting operations wherein the cutting tool is moved in response to movement of the turret carriage of the turret head. Another attachment is provided to facilitate supporting of the workpiece during the preturning of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1977Date of Patent: December 6, 1977Assignee: Index-Werke KG Hahn & TesskyInventors: Heinrich Lahm, Dieter Gutbrod

Patent number: 4058034Abstract: Automatic turret lathe apparatus is disclosed in which a single turret head is provided that can support a plurality of tools for performing machining operations on both outside and inside surfaces of a workpiece carried on the live spindle of the lathe. The axis of the turret head is disposed at a preferred angular relationship to the axis of the live spindle, and the receiving or mounting surfaces for the inside and outside machining tools are disposed alternately around the axis of the turret head in planar arrangements that provide optimum operating conditions for utilizing the outside and inside machining tools on a single turret head.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1976Date of Patent: November 15, 1977Assignee: Index-Werke KG Hahn & TesskyInventors: Heinrich Lahm, Dieter Gutbrod

Patent number: 3946296Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for checking and monitoring the movement of a tool carriage in response to a numerical controlled program. The path of movement of the tool carriage is recorded independently of the program control during the initial run of the carriage, in a manner capable of being subsequently sensed. The recorded path is thereafter sensed during the subsequent runs of the carriage and a signal is produced when the carriage deviates from the recorded path. The recording device includes a stationary supporting member having a surface upon which a drawing or etching may be made. The drawing or etching member is mounted to the movable carriage so as to become jointly movable therewith. The sensing member is mounted in conjunction with the drawing instrument and is interchangeable therewith during the sensing portion of the procedure.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1974Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: Index-Werke KG Hahn & TesskyInventor: Heinrich Lahm

Patent number: RE29694Abstract: A machine tool with a rotary work spindle and a cross-slide having a lower carriage and an upper carriage movable on the lower carriage in a direction normal to the direction of movement of the lower carriage. One of the carriages is movable normal to the axis of the work spindle. A turret is mounted on the upper carriage indexible about an axis located in a plane including the axis of the work spindle. The turret is provided with at least two groups or rows or receiving means for tool holders which are disposed in two parallel planes spaced in direction of the turret axis from each other.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1976Date of Patent: July 11, 1978Assignee: Index-Werke KG Hahn & TesskyInventors: Gerhard Foll, Heinrich Lahm
