    Abstract: A process for the production of largely amorphous polyalphaolefins with a narrow molecular weight distribution is provided where the products exhibit the following features:softening point between 70.degree. and 40.degree. C.;melt viscosity (190.degree. C.) between 1,000 and 100,000 mPas;density less than 0.90 g/cm.sup.3 ;needle penetration between 5 and 50 0.1 mm; andmaximum molecular inhomogeneity 6.These polymers are obtained by a radical decomposition performed at high temperatures on copolymers based on C.sub.4-10 alpha-olefins, propene and optionally ethene. The products are suitable for use as hot melt adhesives as well as for heavy coating compounds.
