  • Patent number: 4373964
Abstract: In the process for the preparation of high concentration, low-viscosity liquid pigment pastes comprising mixing pigments, a substantially non-volatile liquid organic media, a suspension assistant, and, optionally, fillers, the improvement consisting of using acidic reaction products of the reaction of:(A) unsaturated dicarboxylic acid compounds, and(B) an unsaturated ester of a dicarboxylic acid, which reaction product is produced by heating said component A and said component B in a weight ratio of 1:7 to 1:35 for from 1 to 25 hours at a temperature in the range of 200.degree. to 250.degree., as said suspension assistant;as well as the high concentration, low-viscosity pigment pastes and solutions of said acidic reaction products in organic liquid media.

  • Patent number: 4329381
Abstract: Method for providing corrosion protective coatings for metal surfaces. The coatings contain conventional coating components to which are added at least one zinc or lead salt of five- or six-membered heterocyclic compounds substituted by at least one hydroxyl or mercapto group and the ring includes at least one nitrogen atom and at least two conjugated double bonds, of which at least one has the formation. ##STR1## as corrosion inhibitors.

  • Patent number: 4226637
Abstract: Dispersion adjuvants are described comprising .beta.-hydroxyalkyl esters of the formula ##STR1## wherein the R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent hydrogen or alkyl with 1 to 21 carbon atoms, in which at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is alkyl and the sum of the carbon atoms in R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 ranges from 6 to 22, and wherein R.sub.3 represents alkyl with 1 to 8 carbon atoms, optionally substituted with 1 to 2 hydroxyl groups and/or interrupted by 1 to 2 ether bridges, as well as the adducts of compounds of Formula I with alkylene oxides, preferably ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide. The dispersion adjuvants are coated on pigment and filler materials for paints and lacquers. The coating is applied before or during the dispersion of the materials in the paint or lacquer media or vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4167421
Abstract: A process for improving the dispersibility of inorganic and organic pigments and fillers which comprises contacting said pigments and fillers with (a) aminoalkanols of the formulae ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is alkyl having 6 to 22 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is hydrogen or methyl, provided there is only one methyl group per (CH).sub.x group, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are the same or different and are hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or hydroxyalkyl having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, x is an integer of from 2 to 6 and y is an integer of from 0 to 3, with the proviso that, if y is 0, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are not both hydrogen, or (b) salts, (c) alkoxylation products, and (d) quaternization products of said aminoalkanols, and recovering highly dispersible pigments and fillers.

  • Patent number: 4167420
Abstract: A process for improving the dispersibility of inorganic and organic pigments and fillers which comprises contacting said pigments and fillers with (a) a mixture of aminoalkanols of the formulae ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are alkyl having 1 to 21 carbon atoms, the sum of the carbon atoms in R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 being 6 to 22, R.sub.3 is hydrogen or methyl, provided there is only one methyl group per (CH).sub.x group, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are the same or different and are hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or hydroxyalkyl having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, x is an integer of from 2 to 6 and y is 0,1,2 or 3, the R.sub.1 --CH--CH--R.sub.2 units in the aminoalkanols being of at least two different chain lengths of from 8 to 24 carbon atoms and the vicinal substituents being distributed statistically along said chain lengths, with the proviso that, if y is 0, R.sub.4 and R.sub.
