  • Patent number: 8659386
Abstract: For operating a laser device to which an identification code is assigned in combination with a laser fiber depending on an identification code assigned to the laser fiber, the identification code assigned to the laser fiber is generated depending on the identification code of the laser device and compared by the laser device with its own identification code in such a way that the laser fiber may only be used in combination with the particular laser device.

  • Patent number: 7775969
Abstract: The present invention relates to an endoscope, in particular an ureterorenoscope. The endoscope comprises a lumen for insertion of a light and energy transmitting fiber. According to the invention during insertion of the fiber into a working channel of the endoscope the sharp edges of the fiber are protected by a flexible sleeve in order to avoid damages of a wall limiting the working channel. Prior to using the fiber for transmitting energy emitted by a laser the flexible sleeve is completely removed from the working channel in order to free a lumen that might be used for additional instruments or delivery of a fluid. Furthermore the stiffness of the endoscope is reduced by removing the flexible sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6761713
Abstract: The medical laser unit (1) includes at least one laser body (3) being made of laser material (4). A first type of a pump light source (11) is designed and arranged to continuously excite the laser material (4) and to generate continuous laser radiation (7). A second type of a pump light source (16) is designed and arranged to excite the laser material (4) by pulses and to generate pulsed laser radiation (7). A transmitting unit is designed and arranged to transmit the continuous laser radiation (7) and the pulsed laser radiation (7) to a surgical application site. More particularly, the medical laser unit (1) has two modes of operation, a first mode for cutting with continuous laser radiation (7) and a second mode for fragmenting with pulsed laser radiation (7) of short time and high power laser pulses.

  • Patent number: 6074384
Abstract: An apparatus for percutaneous laser revascularization of a patient's beating heart includes a laser system that produces a pulsed laser beam with a wavelength in a range of approximately 1.7 .mu.m to approximately 2.15 .mu.m, each pulse of the laser beam having a pulse duration in a range of approximately 1 ms and greater and having a pulse energy in a range of approximately 5 J to approximately 25 J. The pulse can include a train of micropulses. A fiber optic element that is coupled to the laser system is arranged with a catheter to pass through a vasculature of the patient and to deliver pulses of the laser beam to an interior wall of the patient's heart. The laser system can include a flash lamp-pumped laser in which a large capacitor bank discharges only a fraction of its stored energy through a flash lamp to fire the laser, wherein the capacitor discharge is turned off by a switchable device, such as a high current transistor, after the integrated energy of a laser pulse reaches a selected value.
