  • Patent number: 4802935
Abstract: A substrate for a lithographic printing plate is made of a rolled aluminum alloy sheet of following composition: 0.8 to 2.0% Fe, up to 0.8% Si and up to 1.0% Mn, such that the sum of the Si and Mn contents lies between 0.3 and 1.3%, up to 0.3% Cu, up to 0.8% Mg, up to 2.0% Zn and 0.3% each of other constituents in total up to 1.0%, rest aluminum. A process for manufacturing such a substrate is such that this composition is cast as a 5 to 12 mm thick strip then fabricated to a 0.03 to 0.6 mm thick rolled sheet.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4609408
Abstract: A process for manufacturing thin strip or foil of aluminum of at least 99.9% purity is such that, after casting, the cast material is rolled to final thickness at temperatures between 20.degree. and 420.degree. C., whereby at thicknesses below at least 8 times the final thickness no intermediate anneals are performed and rolling is carried out at temperatures no higher than 250.degree. C. After a recrystallizing final anneal at temperatures between 480.degree. and 640.degree. C. the material exhibits mainly cube texture.

  • Patent number: 4235646
Abstract: A composition and method whereby aluminum scrap, including consumer scrap, is recycled into aluminum sheet and aluminum containers. Aluminum scrap is melted in a heated furnace to form a melt composition. The melt is adjusted to form the present composition, consisting essentially of silicon, 0.1-1.0%; iron 0.1-0.9%; manganese 0.4-1.0%; magnesium 1.3-2.5%; copper 0.05-0.4%; and titanium, 0-0.2%, the balance being essentially aluminum. Aluminum scrap comprising consumer scrap, plant scrap, and can making scrap is heated to form the melt composition, which requires a minimum amount of adjustment to arrive at the present alloy composition. The composition is then cast and fabricated into sheet having strength and formability properties making it suitable for container manufacture. Container manufacture according to the process and composition of the present invention comprises drawn-and-ironed can body manufacture and easy-opening end manufacture.

  • Patent number: 4232095
Abstract: Filler metal for welding AlZnMg type alloys raises the resistance to stress corrosion without increasing the susceptibility to exfoliation corrosion. The composition of the filler metal includes a copper addition which suppresses weld boundary corrosion while additions of manganese, titanium, chromium and zirconium inhibit weld cracking. High weld strengths are attained using the said filler metal.
