  • Patent number: 6152609
Abstract: A plug connection for connecting a light waveguide to a plug has a plug member with a connecting light waveguide extending from one side thereof having an end being spliced to a light waveguide of a light waveguide cable and at least one strain relief element being passed over the splice and connected to the plug member. The method of forming the plug connection includes providing a sufficient length of both the connecting light waveguide extending from the plug member and the light waveguide of the cable so that a connection in a normal, known splicing apparatus can be obtained outside of the position of the plug member and then conducting the strain relief element over the splice region and connecting it to the plug member.

  • Patent number: 5163116
Abstract: The optical waveguide (AD) has a substantially rectangular internal opening in the form of a chamber (CA) for accepting the optical fibers arranged in the form of ribbon conductors (BL1-BLn). The optical fibers (AD) (sic) has a preferred bending plane (BP), the ribbon conductors being arranged with their broad sides substantially parallel to this preferred bending plane (BP), and the ribbon conductors (BL1-BLn) being guided in an undulating fashion such that their excursion extends transverse to the preferred bending plane.

  • Patent number: 4983013
Abstract: An optical cable comprising a carrier member extending in a longitudinal direction and having outwardly accessible chambers receiving light waveguides, each of said chambers being separated from one another by a web characterized by a depression being formed in each of said webs to enlarge the heat-emitting surfaces and to remove undesirable accumulation of material in the region of the carrier members. The depressions preferably have a V-shaped cross section, and are smaller than the channels and are able to receive additional elements, which may include waveguides, tensile elements or electrical conductors. Each of the V-shaped depressions can also e used as a gas channel when the optical cable is to operated in a gas-pressure monitored fashion.

  • Patent number: 4887423
Abstract: In the processing of light waveguides, a method uses an overhead haul-off from a first supply reel to apply a pre-twist to the light waveguide, which is preserved during a tinting operation and while the tinted waveguide is wound in a tangential direction on a second supply reel. During further processing, in acordance with the present method, the waveguide is taken off by an overhead haul-off process from the second supply reel in a direction of haul-off which is opposite to the direction during the first overhead haul-off so that the twist produced by the second overhead haul-off is in an opposite direction and compensates for the twist produced during the first overhead haul-off operation.

  • Patent number: 4214546
Abstract: An amphibious truck includes an arrangement for converting same into a pontoon or ferry vehicle. The converting arrangement comprises two elongated U-shaped support bars arranged on opposite ends of the platform of the truck and transversely to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and each end of the bar supports for rotation in a plane perpendicular to the platform a triangular guiding member. Stacked on the platform, between the support bars, are two floats which are linked at their ends to the assigned triangular guiding members by hydraulic cylinders. Additional pairs of hydraulic cylinders are linked between a central point of the respective support bars and the free apexes of the triangular guiding members. The resulting hydraulically controlled power transmission link is expandable between the floats and the platform in a plane perpendicular to the bars and makes it possible to tilt the floats into an operative position in alignment with the platform.

  • Patent number: 4018397
Abstract: A system for simultaneously extending two storable tubular extendible members, each such member being composed of two elongate strips of elastically deformable material, each strip having been fabricated to normally assume the form of a tube having an axis parallel to the length of the strip and being capable of being coiled about an axis perpendicular to such tube axis and of being flattened in the direction of its width while retaining its ability to assume the form of a tube upon being uncoiled, there being provided two coiling drums each arranged to carry one respective component strip of each tubular member and the drums being arranged to be rotated simultaneously in order to uncoil the strips in a manner to extend the two tubular members, or to coil the strips in a manner to retract the tubular members. The system can be arranged to provide any number of pairs of tubular members by providing a plurality of axially spaced pairs of coiling drums each carrying two such strips.
