  • Patent number: 4566143
Abstract: The present invention provides a bridging system which serves to bridge expansion gaps, used in the roadbeds of major structures such as bridges or viaducts. The supporting portion of the system comprises bearers, the upper sides of which are level with the surface of the roadway. The bearers rest on crosspieces that are supported in such a manner as to be able to move, within recesses below the roadway. The secondary gaps between the bearers are sealed by means of elastic rubber strips. In order that any contraction or expansion of the structure is distributed evenly across the secondary gaps, the crosspieces are controlled by means of connecting rods. The ends of these connecting rods are articulated onto opposing edges of the gap. In contrast to conventional systems of this kind in which connecting rods are disposed beneath the crosspieces, in the present system, connecting rods pass through the crosspieces.

  • Patent number: 4388015
Abstract: A drainage device for drainage of moisture which collects between a waterproof isolating layer applied to the top surface and a concrete slab itself and/or moisture which passes through a surface layer deposited on top of the isolating layer. The drainage device has a drainpipe extending through the concrete slab and having at its upper end a shallow funnel provided on its upper surface with radially extending grooves and being flush with the top surface of the concrete slab. The funnel is fitted on its underside with a centering cuff concentrically surrounding the funnel tube spatially separating the funnel tube from the drainpipe, the diameter of the funnel tube being at least about 20% smaller than the inner diameter of the drainpipe. The upper end of the funnel opening is covered with a mushroom shaped insert resting on the top of the isolating layer and having radially extending grooves on its underside.

  • Patent number: 4359295
Abstract: This invention relates to a device for spanning expansion gaps in bridge decks or roadways. The invention provides a small, simple and low cost edge channel member of U-shape which may be welded to one type or a variety of different commericially available steel sections in accordance with any particular needs. Screws accessible from above are provided to retain the edge portions of an elongate body of flexible resilient elastomeric material which spans the expansion gap. Thus, the invention permits the installation of expansion joints for any desired thickness of the wearing course and any type of fastening to the concrete base course.
