  • Patent number: 6398308
Abstract: The invention relates to an adjusting device for a motor vehicle seat with a first adjusting arm (20), with a second adjusting arm (22) that is arranged opposite the first adjusting arm (20) so as to be rotatable about an axle (24), with a drive shaft (32) allocated to the first adjusting arm (20) that has a free end and carries a pinion (36), and with a toothed quadrant (38) formed in the second adjusting arm (22) and meshing with the pinion (36). A supporting part (44) is formed on the second adjusting arm (22), wherein said supporting part (44) is located in the vicinity of the drive shaft (32), is positioned near the drive shaft (32) radially outside thereof when the pinion (36) is subjected to normal load and gets in contact with the drive shaft (32) and supports it when the pinion (36) is subjected to heavy load, particularly when the pinion (36) is subjected to a load occasioned by an accident.

  • Patent number: 5215347
Abstract: A seat unit can be screwed automatically to the body platform at four fixing points without the need to alter the seat setting during screwing and has a sufficiently rigid connection, in particular a sufficiently firm connection for seat belts which are fixed to the seat, to the body platform. The fixing regions are provided in the floor rail itself, in particular in each case at a distance from the free ends of the latter and in a profile region, extending essentially parallel to the body platform, of the floor rail. These regions are joined directly to a steep wall and, with the latter, in each case form a ramp, and are oriented such that they enclose as small an angle as possible with the floor rail, although this angle is kept sufficiently large that, in an installation setting of the seat unit, the axes of the holes extend in front of the front side of the seat and behind the rear side of the seat with a clearance of a few centimeters, which makes possible the use of a screwdriver unit.

  • Patent number: 4978170
Abstract: A seat for use in a motor vehicle has a body supporting unit and a back rest which is pivotably connected to the body supporting unit by two hinges having pintles provided with eccentrics which cause the back rest to perform a composite pivotal and transverse movement while it changes its orientation with reference to the body supporting unit. The back rest carries two pivotably mounted arm rests which are connected to the back rest and to the body supporting unit by linkages serving to ensure that the orientation of the arm rests remains substantially or completely unchanged while the back rest is pivoted with reference to the body supporting unit. A second linkage can be used to pivot the front ends of the arm rests rearwardly and upwardly when the back rest is lifted with reference to the body supporting unit and is pivoted forwardly toward the dashboard in a two-door motor vehicle in order to afford convenient access to the rear seats or to permit a passenger to leave a rear seat with a minimum of effort.

  • Patent number: 4611853
Abstract: In an articulated fitting for vehicle seats, particularly motor vehicle seats, having an upper fitting element (4) to be connected with the back rest, a lower fitting element (3) to be connected with the seat portion, an intermediate element (5), which is pivotably connected both with the upper fitting element and with the lower fitting element about a hinged axis (6) and a lower-lying folding axis (13), respectively, and having an adjusting and holding device that engages the upper fitting element (4) and the intermediate element (5) for the adjustment of the angle of inclination of the back rest and the folding lock (14,17,18,20) which permits a pivoting of the upper fitting element (4) and the intermediate element (5) about the folding axis (13) only when in the opened condition, the connecting line between the pivot axis (6) and the folding axis (13) when the folding lock is closed, encompasses an angle of at most 30.degree.

  • Patent number: 4103964
Abstract: A hinge assembly for supporting the back part of a motor-vehicle seat on the fixed seat part comprises two hinges. Each of these hinges comprises a first hinge element pivotal on the seat part about a first axis between a rest position and a pivoted position and a second hinge element on the back part and pivotal on the respective first hinge element about a second axis through a plurality of angularly offset adjustment positions. Each second hinge element is provided with a plurality of teeth and each first hinge element has a pivotal pawl with teeth engageable with the teeth of the respective second element so as to hold the second element when these teeth are engaged in any of a plurality of angularly off-set adjustment positions. Mechanism is provided connected to both of these pawls for displacing the teeth thereof into and out of engagement with the respective teeth of the second formation.
