  • Patent number: 4993690
Abstract: An electroslag remelting plant includes an ingot mold 4 for forming a block from remolten material, at least one consumable electrode 26, a body having at least one vertically driven electrode rod 20 for the advance of the consumable electrode and a hood 33 disposed above the ingot mold which has at least one concentric opening toward the respective electrode axis. In order to limit the volume over the slag the following is provided: The hood 33 is, with respect to its vertical axis "A", subdivided into laterally movable sectors 34, 35 each of which is, at a first sealing joint 41, gas-tight connected with its lower edge 40 to top of the ingot mold 4 as far as possible and with its upper edge 39, at a second sealing joint 42, gas-tight sealed as far as possible with respect to the electrode rod. Further, the hood 33 has an interior of such cross section and height that, in its most elevated position, the top end of the at least one consumable electrode 26 is below the second sealing joint 42 of the hood 33.

  • Patent number: 4775981
Abstract: In a melting furnace with weight-related control of the consumable electrode, the electrode mounting is disposed in a separate pressure chamber which has an inverted bottle-shaped configuration. The downwardly extending neck-like portion is passed sealingly through an opening in the cover plate of the melting chamber. The pressure chamber is suspended from a crossbeam which can be driven vertically by means of spindles. On the upper end of the pressure chamber there is provided a bellows whose upper edge is joined to the upper, tubular portion of the electrode holding rod, while a solid rod holding a current-carrying tube extends coaxially through the tubular portion and is hung from a frame which suspends the electrode holding rod and which is supported on the crossbeam by a sensor.

  • Patent number: 4658404
Abstract: Disclosed is an induction furnace with a furnace bottom comprising a crucible, an induction winding and a gas-tight casing, also having a lid, for the furnace bottom, which lid has at least one gas connection, a charging valve and a pouring arrangement. The furnace bottom and lid are connected by a flange joint and tiltably mounted by means of a picot bearing and a drive about a tipping axis in a furnace stand. The pivot bearing is secured to the lid, the tipping mechanism engages the lid, and the furnace bottom is separable from the lid by unfastening the flange joint, the lid remaining in the furnace stand.
