  • Patent number: 7399397
Abstract: A process for the production of coated substrates comprising the successive steps of: a) applying a coating composition A? onto one side A? of a metal sheet to form a coating layer A which is electrically insulating when cured and applying a coating composition B? onto the opposite side of the metal sheet to form coating layer B which is electrically conductive when cured, wherein each of the coating compositions A? and B? are applied by coil coating, b) curing the two coating layers A and B, c) removing and shaping sheet metal parts provided with the cured coating layer A on one side A? and with the cured coating layer B on the other side B?, d) optionally, assembling the coated shaped sheet metal parts to form a construction with outwardly directed sides A? and e) electrodepositing an electrodeposition (ED) coating layer onto the electrically conductive surfaces and curing of the ED coating layer.

  • Patent number: 6328873
Abstract: Cathodic electrodeposition coating compositions containing, in addition to conventional self-cross-linking or external cross-linking film-forming binders as well as optionally cross-linking agents, pigments, extenders, additives conventionally used in coating agents and solvents, from 0.1 to 5 wt-%, based on the resin solids content of the coating compositions, of one or more sulphonamides, when coated on a galvanized surface, produce coatings that are substantially free of pinholes.

  • Patent number: 5415750
Abstract: Aqueous baths for electrophoretic lacquering containing binding agents capable of cathodic deposition and containing as additives for enhancing surface appearance, in particular as anti-cratering agents,0.1 to 3% by weight of one or several (meth)acrylic copolymers with an amine number of 15-150 and an OH-number of 15-450, together with0.1 to 2% by weight of one or several polyesters with .beta.-hydroxyalkyl ester groups, with an acid number of 0 to 3 and a weight average molecular weight of 1000 to 10000, and/or together with0.1 to 5% by weight of one or several homopolymers or copolymers of one or several alkylvinyl ethers with 1-5 carbon atoms in the alkyl residue, with a weight average molecular weight of 500 to 10000,whereby the percentages by weight relate to the solids content of the binding agents, and process for the coating of substrates that conduct electricity.

  • Patent number: 5098537
Abstract: Aqueous electrodeposition coating baths containing cathodically depositable binders and having a content of homopolymers or copolymers of an alkyl vinyl ether, characterized in that the baths contain the following surface-improving additives:0.1 to 5 wt. % of one or more homopolymers or copolymers of an alkyl vinyl ether with 1 to 5 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical and having a weight average molecular weight of 500 to 10000, together with0.1 to 2 wt. % of one or more polyesters comprising .beta.-hydroxyalkyl ester groups, with an acid number of 0 to 3 and a weight average molecular weight of 1000 to 10000,the percentages by weight relating to the solids in the binders, and the proportions by weight of alkyl vinyl ether homopolymers or copolymers to polyester being in the ratio 1:10 to 10:1, relative in each case to the resin solids.
