  • Patent number: 5292971
Abstract: Fluorine-substituted vicinal glycols of the formula ##STR1## in which the substituents R.sub.1 to R.sub.4, independently of one another, have the following meanings: R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 =H, fluorine, C.sub.1 - to C.sub.18 -alkyl in which some or all of the hydrogens may be substituted by fluorine, and at least one of the substituents R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 is a completely fluorinated alkyl or an alkyl of the formula--(CH.sub.2).sub.m --(C.sub.n F.sub.2n+1),in which m is 1 or 2, and n is an integer from 1 to 17, and x is 0 or 1.Furthermore, a method for the preparation of the fluorinated vicinal glycols is described. • Patent number: 5107034
Abstract: The invention provides a method for producing 4-(2'-methoxyethyl)phenol by brominating 4-hydroxyacetophenone to produce alpha-bromo-5-hydroxyacetophenone, and then causing a methoxide-bromide exchange to thereby produce alpha-methoxy-4-hydroxyacetophenone; and then conducting a single step reduction of alpha-methoxy-4-hydroxyacetophenone with at least two equivalents of hydrogen per equivalent of alpha-methoxy-4-hydroxyacetophenone in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to thereby directly produce 4-(2'-methoxyethyl)phenol.

  • Patent number: 5087748
Abstract: A continuous process for the preparation of perfluorinated carbonyl fluorides from hexafluoropropene oxide (HFPO), in which HFPO is continuously oligomerized in a catalyst solution in devices which allow separation of the heavy product phase from the catalyst phase during the reaction, is described. Different oligomer distributions can be achieved by choice of the catalyst and different operating temperatures. The reaction itself takes place always in the substantial absence of the product which is formed, and achieves a considerable saving in time.

  • Patent number: 4992598
Abstract: A process for the purificationof 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane by washing a crude admixture containing both it and impurities with a saturated solution of 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane in water and methanol; and isolating the washed crude admixture from the effluent and dissolving the washed crude admixture in methanol, and adding water and sodium borohydride to the dissolved, washed crude admixture to form a precipitate of 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane, and filtering the precipitate to form a resultant purified 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane and a filtrate. Another embodiment of the invention provides iteratively repeating the process by washing an additional crude admixture batch with the filtrate from a prior purification.

  • Patent number: 4973748
Abstract: A process for the preparation of perfluorinated carbonyl fluorides from hexafluoropropene oxide (HFPO) is described, in which HFPO is oligomerized in an aprotic polar solvent in the presence of a tertiary diamine in the absence or presence of at least one protonic compound. Preferably employed are tetraalkyl-substituted tertiary aliphatic diamine compounds. Protonic compounds which are possibly and preferably used are water, methanol, glycol, ammonia or diethylamine. The selectivity can be displaced in favor of shorter-chain oligomers, in particular of the dimer, by an increased content of these compounds.
